We did the lunch combined with a 2 hour tour. We did not stay at the Sagamore. The tour was very interesting and well worth our while. Our tour guide Amanda kept us engaged with little stories that added to the experience. Lunch was somewhat bland, but the cookies and ambiance of the dining hall made it worthwhile.

I had the great pleasure (along with 3 friends) of being part of a group tour of the Great Camp Sagamore (Vanderbilt). Our guide was INCREDIBLE...highly knowledgeable, filled with a ton of interesting and fun facts, let a group of 23 on a THREE HOUR tour of the entire estate (inside and outside the buildings). We could not believe how well she timed everything, was very encouraging of audience participation and made this a fascinating part of our Adirondeck travels. None of us had any idea of the historical treasure trove that this Great Camp is. The architecture and the landscape were fascinating. We even had a live demo by a local artisan quilter. But again, the Tour Guide was SO wonderful and we would highly recommend her and this tour for anyone who wants to be educated and entertained as much as we were. Kudos to the staff of Camp Sagamore!!!!

I took the historic tour (did not stay overnight at the Camp). Our guide was amazing!!! She took us around the camp for over two hours to see several of the buildings and related interesting historical facts about prior owners, including the Vanderbilts.

Great Camp Sagamore, which once belonged to the Vanderbilts, now is run by a non-profit. For me, it was a summer camp for grown-ups that I enjoyed very much. The site is secluded and beautiful, and the rustic style of the buildings fits their setting well. The dining hall has a beautiful view of Lake Sagamore. Meals are served buffet-style in the dining hall, with several choices for entrees. Bathrooms are shared, and diners bus their own dishes. There are hiking trails. Kayaks and canoes are available for guests. Many more lakes and trails are a short drive away.

I loved being seeped in the history when I stayed here 9/15 - 9/20/2024. The little differences of light switches and windows opening. The luxury of floors, walls, and ceiling all being shiny wood. The bed frames were original, massive, Adirondack rustic inspired wood - but the sheets, pillows, and mattresses were divine for peaceful lounging. Common areas invited reading from their libraries, crafts, and community puzzle work. The staff were happy and helpful. I loved swimming in the private lake or using their boats. The mountains rising in the distance, mirrored in the lake, was always a welcome view while swimming, dining, or lounging in an Adirondack chair. During my stay I listened to live music as part of their Wednesday night concert series - the band was fun with an amazing sound and vocals. Catching up with new friends at the camp fire with smores was a treat. But bowling at great Camp Sagamore is something I'm sure is hardest to find elsewhere - early 20th century, with an entertaining manual ball return track in fresh air, an open building constructed in the same luxurious "camp" style as the rest of the awe-inspiring structures. Can't wait to go back. I didn't have time to do the lawn games! Looking forward to supporting this organization to preserve the experience for generations to come.

“What a surreal place,” said my boyfriend as we arrived to The Great Camp Sagamore. I couldn’t agree more. This place is the perfect escape. An escape from the stress of life. An escape from the stress of your own mind. Breathe in the smell of pine in the forest and flow alongside Raquette Lake on a kayak. Reset. Unwind. The staff are truly so caring and helpful. They accommodated my dietary restrictions and the food was absolutely delicious. The beds are comfortable and there is so much to do! Hiking, kayaking, canoeing, bowling, camp fires, tours, fern walks, nature painting, and so much more! Thank you for an unforgettable stay. We love you Camp Sagamore! ❤️ -Lottie & Tyler

Stayed there last year 2024. We lucked out, missing black fly season by one week. Staff were incredibly helpful and friendly. The sleeping quarters were perfect although being a camp they are basic but beautiful. Food is great. The great camp is worth a stay at least once in your life but there are plenty of reasons to return over and over.

I spent a weekend here for the Women's Writers group. Such a wonderful place and time. The staff made me feel like I was home and not just a visitor. The food choices included delicious vegan options. Lots of veggies and fruit, too. The grounds are beautiful and although I did not hike, choosing instead to write, I did kayak on the lake. We shared our weekend with Adirondack musicians and that made a big impact on the specialness of my time there. Best of all, I accompanied my future daughter-in-law for the weekend, and she is so totally wonderful! I can't wait for next year's weekend.
