Grizzly Flat Dispersed Campground is a remote and secluded camping destination located within the Mendocino National Forest in Northern California. This dispersed campground offers visitors the unique opportunity to experience nature first-hand in a peaceful and untamed setting. Nestled in the forest, Grizzly Flat provides access to scenic trails, breathtaking views, and a chance to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life.
While Grizzly Flat is known for its natural beauty, it is important to note that this campground offers basic facilities only. The area features pit toilets and fire rings for cooking, but no running water or electrical hookups. Visitors are encouraged to come prepared with all necessary camping supplies, including food, water, and waste disposal bags.
One of the standout features of Grizzly Flat is its location in the backcountry, which provides a sense of seclusion and connection to nature. However, due to its remote nature, visitors should be aware of potential challenges such as limited access to emergency services and wildlife encounters. The area is known for its bear activity, so campers are advised to take necessary precautions to store food properly and secure their campsites.
Customer feedback highlights both the beauty of the location and the challenges of camping here. Many visitors appreciate the opportunity to experience nature in an untouched environment, while others have noted concerns about safety and limited facilities. One visitor described it as "one of the worst campsites" due to issues with bear activity and unsanitary conditions, while another praised the scenic views and recommended bringing extra supplies for a safe and comfortable stay.
Grizzly Flat Dispersed Campground is ideal for those seeking an authentic backcountry experience. While it may not be suitable for everyone, it offers a unique opportunity to explore the Mendocino National Forest and enjoy its natural beauty. For those willing to embrace the challenges of primitive camping, Grizzly Flat can be a memorable destination.

One of the worst campsites in the Mendocino forest. It’s the only bathroom for miles and miles and the campsite is in between the bathroom and the forestry road so everyone stops walks through your campsite and uses the bathroom. The other thing is the crazy amount of bears nearby I imagine it could be unsafe. Not to mention our campfire had live ammunition in it that we fortunately found.
Very nice scenery at this elevation. Was last here in September 2005. Search for Etsel Ridge (the "ridge" not the "mountain peak") to see pictures of the Forest Service station here.
Very remote at the top of Hall mountain. Big open space that can accommodate at least five or more vehicles
Great place for camping
