Beautiful, quiet park. Spent a night here in early August, site was clean and well maintained. Fishing was decent, pond seems to have a healthy smallmouth bass population. Was hoping for trout but doesn’t seem like this is a trout water anymore.
Most camping spots in the Grout Pond camping area remain blocked off with snowfence. Pond access for fishing and boat access is open. It appears that many tent sites around the pond are open, based on the occupation I saw.
Absolutely beautiful area. Perfectly wild. You can just visit it during the day, or find a camping spot and camp overnight (overnight is $16 a night).
Kayaking on Grout Pond is LOVELY. It's a particularly beautiful spot. I grew up going to summer camp in nearby Newfane (my parents house was in South Newfane) & we'd do Kayaking/hiking/overnight camping trips to Grout at least 2-3 times throughout the Summer. Later on, when I was in college down in Western Massachusetts, I coached my Alma Mater's Alpine ⛷️ Racing Team, and we'd hike my: "home 🏔️'s" (Haystack, Mt. Snow & Stratton) every Fall 🍁 during the foliage as a team-building exercise, and when we'd do the hike up Stratton, we'd Kayak/camp out at Grout the day before.
Absolutely gorgeous spot with unmatched views and a grand variety of sites. There are 11 camping locations by the water including raised platforms, covered platforms, grills for campfire dining, and scenic spots further inland raised onto a hill. Built in 3/4 mi hike to spot 11 that circumnavigates the other campers, and 3 mile trail up the mountain. The trail designated "Camp Trail" does NOT lead to the sites!! This is the 3/4 mi hike that goes around the campground (we learned this the hard way - haha). Definitely coming back after mud season, one of the most beautiful locations I've ever visited.
