The trails are super fun, very well marked, and match their descriptions well. You can cross the river to access the main part of the park. (as of Jan 2025 you can jump on rocks to cross without getting wet) There is no staff at this entrance so bring exact change for the park fee. You enter a gate code and park at the trailhead where there are envelopes to drop off the entry fee and keep the receipt on your dash.

We took the Hofheinz trail to the river, then returned and took the Hofheinz connector trail to the Bauer Trail. The main trail is mostly level, heavily wooded, and has a mostly smooth surface with some imbedded and loose rocks. Trails are easy to follow with good post signage. The Bauer trail is a single lane gravel road, mostly flat. Nicest scenery is by the river- southwest corner. The entry gate has a chain on it you remove to enter. Parking lot down the road on right. No staff or restrooms at this location.

Bauer side of the Guadalupe River State Park is amazing. It is time to fix and update the trail signs but still it is awesome. It is reached off of Edge Hill Falls Road. Map it. Worth it. Bring cash

Remote wilderness hiking! However DIRECTIONAL SIGNAGE is scarce and incomplete. There were a couple of instances where trail came to a 'Y' OR 'T'...and there was NO directional signs to guide ( i did at least 1 1/2 miles of BACK TRACKING because of that)! None of signage directed one back to the PARKING area. Maybe there are SCENIC areas somewhere in the UNIT...but I saw NONE of it. Maybe I hiked WRONG trails. Disappointing.
