The Gulf State Park is truly a full-featured RESORT! Day use as well as a huge campground of about 500 sites! They really have everything here, including easy walking access to a great beach and a really long fishing pier . The staff is very professional here and they have plenty of people on duty.
This experience was very fun. There are 3 main lakes. Lake Shelby, Middle Lake (cost $10) and Little Lake. There is a restaurant, camping and bike trails and tons more. They have a trail called Eagle Nest. There are 2 eagles that live there. Highly recommended for photographers. It's an overall good trip for family and friends.
We always have a pleasant experience camping here. Gulf State Park has some of my favorite bike trails in the state. We always see lots of wildlife in the park. Such a cool experience and they free bike rentals too! You can't beat it. Also the bathrooms are always clean and grounds are well maintained.
My bf and I had our first date here. It is so beautiful at all times of the day. Perfect place to watch the sunset, go bike riding, and there are a couple fishing spots throughout the trails. You can walk the trails as well, but I would recommend you bring a backpack cooler with plenty of drinks and snacks if you go deep into the trails. Do not recommend walking in the middle of August it was SO HOT! Multiple chances to see wildlife such as gators, turtles, lizards, and at a certain time of year there are little mouse things in the grass. GSP has picnic tables, bathrooms, bike rentals, maps, and info stands throughout. Highly recommend visiting if you’re on vacation, or just want to enjoy the outdoors. You don’t even have to go in deep to have a great experience.
Cool place! Bike paths are nice. You'd be Amazed by the old oaks on the ridge overlooking the gulf... (* And by the size of the deer living just a few thousand feet from the gulf !!! 😲 But like Everything down here,... it's becoming "crowded". Developments, condos, shops, pre-fab housing stacked just feet apart from one another are surrounding the park. A new private RV park-- approx. 30 acres--was just built in the center of the eastern end of the park (😖 apparently private property purchased Long Ago). Not only has this pushed ALOT of the Wildlife elsewhere,... but Now you have people Stomping throughout the woods (Avoiding the nice blacktop bike path)... leaving trash, disrupting the enormous amount of Reindeer Moss and scaring away the remaining Wildlife! Since I was a kid, I would've given 10 STARS,... up until about 2 years ago. Still a Beautiful place, tons of Nature/scenery and alot of cool history of this area on placards (dated back to the 1500's) randomly placed through park.
