We had an absolute blast staying here in late October!! It was incredibly beautiful!! There was plenty of hiking and stunning nature scenery to enjoy. We had such a spectacular view of the woods. We heard owls and saw adorable chipmunks. We also saw racoon and deer tracks. One night we heard a pack of coyotes singing. It was so cool!! And, to camp in a tent for a few days the price was very reasonable. My only complaint is that there were some other campers who were utilizing leaf blowers for their site at like 8am. I found it very disruptive and rude. People come to these parks to enjoy the tranquility of nature. If you don't like leaves, dude...Perhaps don't go camping in Autumn in Indiana. Or better yet, invest in a rake or a broom. Leaf blowers absolutely do not belong at the park. They are very noisy. I would like to make a suggestion to make the signs that lead up to the park bigger and little brighter. There were brown and blended into the terrain. That and they were so small if you blink, you'll miss them. So, it made it a little tricky to find.
We've been here twice this month. It's a great place in Hoosier National Forest with gravel campsites. Fire rings are great. Picnic tables are great. There are plenty of sites with many being quiet private and not on top of others. They sell ice and wood at the entrance. There are nice private shower rooms. Pit toilets have been very clean. Now understand this isn't a state park. It peaceful and all wooded. Plenty of shade. Close to the lake for boat launch into Monroe Lake. A trail that follows the who ridge down to the lake. Great place for relaxation and peace.
Nicely wooded areas. Paved roads in great shape. Walking trails, beach, playground in good shape. Nice heavy duty fire pits where you can actually use the grate. The staff have always been friendly and helpful. They sell wood for fire pit so that is convenient. You can bring your boat to go on the lake. This has alot to offer at a reasonable price. Highly recommend this place.
Spent several days here solo camping. My son and I camped here in 2016. It was OUTSTANDING. I almost always have something positive to say about the places I camp. However, it's REALLY a pleasure to camp on a NATIONAL PARK SERVICE property. They're always well designed, well built, well managed, and well maintained. I was on a beautiful, deeply-wooded site. Atop a ridge with very steep slopes on both sides. Surrounded by dramatic, native forest.
There's a bit of hiking here but mainly I think it's for water sports and fishing. Very beautiful scenery.
This was so peaceful and quiet! The restrooms were immaculate and the hikes were perfect! The camping and grounds are immense and so are the sites!!! Seriously huge!!! So cool - 2 tiers due the ridge ! Absolutely loved it and it is on our list to go back to!!!
Stayed at the campground in a tent for 3 days. Nice & quiet through the week. Everything was very clean. Site was gravel and leveled. Stakes for the tent went in nicely. Large picnic table, fire ring with flippable cooking grate, and tall lantern post provided at site. Hosts were very nice and were seen driving around on carts enough to know my stuff was safe in the campground. Restrooms & showers were clean with hot water. Used the boat ramp to launch kayaks & paddleboards. Short drive from the campgrounds to the boat ramp and beach area, so it was a great base with our water crafts. Beach is currently closed because of flooding, but playground is still usable if you park in the upper lot & walk down.
The place is stunning and well-maintained, with kind hosts, clean bathrooms, and hot showers all within walking distance. Campsites offer options with electricity and water. Quiet hours start at 10 PM, but that wasn’t a problem for our group. At night, we heard howling in the distance, and in the morning, the birds were so calming. It’s a peaceful forest spot, yet close to the city if needed. We’re planning to go again this summer. Highly recommended!
Very peaceful ,but very disappointed .Ive never ever camped where there was so many cockrouches. I just spent aweek on supper side of Lake Monroe with no bugs .And the shower here on Holland bearly WORKED took 45 mins just to wash my hair. Site was nice but the bugs & shower very disappointed since we did go over to another camping row and i could here that rows shower from road . We did have some cute little vistors ,my grandson took photos of the babies . I put peanut butter smeared on tree so they could eat.
Amazing campground with great facilities. Nice, cozy spots with plenty of room for the whole family. The sight map could use a little work as it was very difficult to read. A slightly bigger paper for it would go a long way. The park staff were very friendly and informative. Very clean park. Will return with the family again.
