Harriet Lake Rustic Campground Introduce
Embrace the Wilderness: A Guide to Harriet Lake Rustic Campground
For Minnesotans seeking a genuine, unplugged escape into the heart of the Northwoods, Harriet Lake Rustic Campground offers a refreshingly authentic experience. Located within the vast beauty of the Superior National Forest near Isabella, this gem is a cherished destination for those who prioritize tranquility, spaciousness, and direct access to stellar wilderness recreation. It’s a retreat from the commercial campground scene, designed for campers who understand and respect the principles of a rustic, pack-in/pack-out environment. The campground sits on the site of an abandoned farm, which means you'll find a captivating blend of old farmland—now blooming with wildflowers like vibrant purple coneflowers—set against the stunning backdrop of the boreal forest. This unique landscape, featuring towering pines, paper birch, and aspen, provides not only a beautiful place to pitch a tent but also fantastic open areas for wildlife viewing and stargazing.
This is not your average full-service destination; it is a true rustic campground. This means you won’t find running water, electricity, or trash disposal services. Instead, you get a free, pristine, and wonderfully remote experience that lets you connect with nature in a profound way. It’s an ideal choice for Minnesota locals—from experienced solo adventurers to families—who are well-prepared to bring everything they need and pack out all their waste, including fish remains. The reward for this preparedness is a secluded, beautiful, and authentic North Shore-area camping trip without the usual fees or crowds.
Location and Accessibility
Harriet Lake Rustic Campground is a hidden treasure tucked away in Lake County, Minnesota, offering an accessible yet remote feel. The campground’s location allows for easy access to the lake and surrounding forest lands for a full day of adventure.
You'll find the campground nestled along the Wanless Trail near the small community of Isabella. While the location provides the desired isolation, it’s still reachable via vehicle. Simple campground for fishing/kayaking. No swimming/beach area. Out the back side of our huge (at least 5 campers and multiple tents could fit!) was a short walk to a old gravel pit that the kids played in for hours. Would definitely return.
Amazing rustic campground. No water source or garbage service. Just amazing camping. Walleye, Pike, crappie and perch are all in the lake to catch. Nice modern pit toilet. Blueberries and raspberries abundant when in season. Stop down to the trestle Inn for dinner excellen food and drinks. Say hi to Sara , Kathy or Sue.
One of my favorite places to camp! Lots of water sized walleyes in the lake that are easily caught. Out of the way so very limited traffic there. In my opinion one of the most peaceful campgrounds I have ever stayed at!
We camped here 4th of July weekend. We ended up picking this place because the sites at the top were very spread out and private. Site #5 was the best view on my opinion. Caught a couple of northern and 1 walleye. We will definitely go back again someday!
Busy...at least the weekend I was there. Can't see the lake very well, just not my favorite campground in the area. The rustic camping spots are numbered, 9 in total I think, but they're so big, you end up sharing your spot whether you want to not.
