Hatteras Sands Campground Introduce

Your Coastal Basecamp: An Introduction to Hatteras Sands Campground

For North Carolina residents who dream of sun-soaked days, incredible fishing, and the unique, untamed beauty of the Outer Banks, Hatteras Sands Campground offers a perfect combination of prime location and essential amenities. Uniquely situated in the heart of the historic Hatteras Village, this destination provides a welcome break from the more remote or sparse camping options often found on the barrier islands. Surrounded by beautiful canals and lush grassy fields, Hatteras Sands offers a feeling of relative seclusion, despite being conveniently located near local shops and restaurants.

Hatteras Sands distinguishes itself by catering to a variety of lodging preferences. It features over 60 paved, full-hookup RV sites capable of accommodating "big rigs," alongside newly renovated, colorful two-room primitive cabins and cottages often described as "tiny house style" for their charm and efficiency. This diversity ensures that whether you arrive in a large RV or simply with a suitcase, you will find a comfortable and memorable place to stay. Past guests consistently praise the accommodations for being clean, comfortable, and well-equipped with modern appliances like mini-fridges, microwaves, and LCD TVs in the rental units.

The entire resort is designed as a relaxing hub for an Outer Banks adventure. While the atmosphere is relaxed, the amenities are serious. The highly rated, newly renovated bathhouse and the large, clean seasonal outdoor pool ensure comfort even when returning from a long day of fishing or surfing the mighty Atlantic. A critical feature appreciated by campers is the clarity of communication: the campground is very clear about what is provided (appliances, TV, clean facilities) and what guests must bring (towels, bedding), allowing for stress-free preparation.

Location and Accessibility

Hatteras Sands Campground boasts an enviable location, being the only campground located directly in the heart of Hatteras Village, a historic fishing and ferry hub on the southern end of Hatteras Island, North Carolina. The physical address is: 57316 Eagle Pass Rd, Hatteras, NC 27943, USA.

The campground is situated just off the beaten path of N.C. Highway 12, which is the main artery of the Outer Banks, affording it a quieter, more secluded atmosphere than roadside locations. Accessibility is excellent for those driving down Hatteras Island. Importantly, the campground is just a 5-minute drive or approximately 7/10 of a mile from the Outer Banks Beaches, including those with 4WD accessible ramps—a huge benefit for fishing and beach enthusiasts. Furthermore, it is within a 10-minute drive of major fishing operations like Teach's Lair Marina and Hatteras Harbor Marina. Its position makes it the perfect launching point for exploring the iconic Cape Hatteras Light Station to the north and catching the ferry to Ocracoke Island to the south.

We stayed in a cabin which had a microwave and mini fridge and TV! The charm of the cabin was adorable. We were pretty alone in the campground since it is October, but really enjoyed our stay. The bathhouse was really nice. The only thing was I could not get an outlet to work, but the shower was plenty big and the water pressure was amazing! Would definitely stay again!!!

We stayed 3 nights in a cabin and had a great time at the Hatteras Sands Campground. The cabins are very small (tiny house style) but also very comfortable, clean, and all the appliances and amenities worked. We were even able to swim in the pool, which was large and clean, despite it being October. They do not provide towels or bedding, but they also make that very clear on the website and when booking a room. I would definitely recommend the campsite, very close to the beach and very pretty area. *If you're prone to a stiff back in the morning you might want to bring a mattress topper. Everyone one else in my group slept great.

Our stay at Hatteras Sands was amazing as always! Definitely on of my favorite campgrounds. The bathhouse/showers were clean, the hot water and water pressure were plentiful, pool was clean as well. The location is superb, right in the middle of all the best Hatteras Island has to offer, most of it being within walking distance. You can fish in the creek that runs through the campground, and Cassandra's customer service was outstanding. I highly recommend giving Hatteras Sands a try!

I checked-in today, and I love it. It is much smaller than the campground I just left, but feels much less crowded. I finally do not feel like a sardine. The pads are paved and spotless and the hook-ups are lovely. The bathrooms are immaculate, and I could finally take a real shower without being grossed out. It is such a cozy place! Cassandra is awesome and delivers amazing customer service. So glad I found this one. I feel so relaxed and ready to enjoy my stay.

Cabins were not sanitized. I personally watched the man clean them. He was in/out in less than 5 minutes. No cleaning supplies. Just swept. No fire pits. Area floods easy. No one picks up their dog feces, so it’s everywhere. No one in main office, you have to call a number.
