Hazard Campground Introduce

Welcome to Hazard Campground, a part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category located near Pollock, Idaho. Situated at Hazard Lake Rd, Pollock, ID 83547, you can reach the campground at (208) 634-0400 or +1 208-634-0400.

The environment surrounding Hazard Campground features three distinct lakes: Hazard Lake, Big Hazard Lake, and Upper Hazard Lake. Hazard Lake is unique in offering pull-up camping suitable for trailers or tents, making it an accessible option for various camping preferences. The other two lakes, Big Hazard and Upper Hazard, are located nearby and require a hike to reach, providing a more secluded experience.

The area is noted for its natural beauty, particularly in the fall when the foliage displays vibrant colors. According to local feedback, the lakes are considered great for fishing, especially for families with young children. Upper Hazard Lake is described as a worthwhile two-mile hike with a modest elevation gain of approximately 400 feet.

While the area is recovering from a past fire in 1994, remnants of standing dead trees are still present in the surrounding forest, and occasional falling trees may be heard. Recent feedback indicates that maintenance might be an area for improvement, with one report of an unclean outhouse facility.

A significant feature mentioned by visitors is the condition of the road leading to Hazard Campground. By mid-July each year, it tends to become a heavily washboarded surface, which some find less desirable compared to the unimproved tracks of the past. However, the trail to Upper Hazard Lake and Hard Creek Lake was reported to be in very good condition.

For local users in Taiwan planning a camping trip to Idaho, Hazard Campground offers a lakeside camping experience with access to hiking and fishing. Be aware of the potential road conditions and the recovering forest environment. It is advisable to contact the campground directly for the most up-to-date information on services, amenities, and any specific regulations. No specific promotional offers were mentioned in the provided reviews.

There are three lakes to explore in this area. Hazard Lake is the only one with pull up camping for trailers or tents. The other two Big Hazard and Upper Hazard are close by but require you to hike in. They are all beautiful especially in Fall with the colors. The locals said they were great fishing lakes especially for young kids. Upper Hazard Lake is a two mile hike with only 400 feet of elevation gain. Well worth the hike.

I’ve been going to Hazard Lake for 70 years. Despite the devastating fire in 1994(?), it remains a gorgeous and serene spot. It is recovering well from the fire, though there remain innumerable standing dead trees that can occasionally be heard crashing in the surrounding forest. On this visit, one of the outhouses had been smeared with excrement and was not cleaned - yuck! Maintenance seems a bit of an issue. The main reason Hazard Campground does not get 5 stars is the road to the campground is interminable washboard by mid-July every year and does not get sufficient grading. Hazard Lake was, frankly, a better place to go prior to the “new” road in the early 1960’s that allows easier and faster access. When you had to crawl your 4x4 in on unimproved tracks, at least there was no washboard and the people who put in the effort to get there didn’t trash the forest or the lakes. But I digress… it’s still a great place, just not what it once was. The trail to Upper Hazard Lake and Hard Creek Lake. Was in very good condition.

The dirt road up to the CG is a slog but go slow & the trip is worth it. One of the prettiest places we have been. Gets full on weekends!

A very quiet campground with good tent and trailer sites. No trash or water available, so pack your own in & out. It does have pit toilets, which were nice and clean when we visited. The area burned in ~1994, so it isn't quite as scenic as other campgrounds a bit further south, but it is still pretty in its own way. Lots of hiking trails and OHV roads around, but they suffer from the fire in terms of views as well. Overall, I would camp here again.

Beautiful area. Fishing wasn't too great. Caught a beautiful Brookie with orange power bait. Plenty of well maintained camping spots. Camp host was super nice. Bathrooms were okay. Spring water from the pump was good. Will definitely go again.
