Had a very nice time camping and enjoying the nearby hiking trails. We were there with the Boy Scouts in one of the Group Camps. The campground was well maintained. However some of the picnic tables in the group site are long past the useful life! All campsites are basic with no water or electricity. Most of the sites were large with a table and a fire pit. Some sites had a small three sided shelter that can be used instead of a tent. There are vault toilets available, but again, no electricity for a light. But they were clean! The season must start June 1. We were there in May and the water had not been turned on there was no camp host. Great place to stargaze!

This was our first experience visiting and camping in Allegheny state park and it was a great location. We would probably pick a different site within heart's content next time, as ours didn't provide too much privacy. Overall though the grounds and available firewood made for a nice trip. The close proximity to hiking trails, both long and short, was also beneficial. I

What to know. The surrounding area is amazing. The old growth forest is likely one of our greatest national natural treasures east of the Mississippi. For such a majestic place, you'd figure the campground would be commensurate with affording a modest primitive approach to camping however be forewarned. Our camping experience over Labor day weekend was less than relaxing, having only about an hour or so during the day when you don't hear the constant drone of generators from city folk that tow their houses out to this magnificient forest. Campsites are right on top of each other. USFS needs to rethink the layout for this campsite so people aren't so close to one another and restrict the use of generators. Quite honestly, this should be a primitive only campground. Why drive out to the wilderness to spend hours in the AC of your camper running a noisy generator? Just stay home. Bathrooms were okay even though we don't usually need that type of amenity when camping. Things are a bit run down likely due to the USFS not investing in this day use area. I work in the same field for a nearby state agency and I'm not trying to be "one of those guys", but there are some glaring problems that need to be addressed at the campsite near this amazing natural area. It's not horrible but it could be much, much better.

Ok campground but when we showed up owner was out to dinner so we had to wait for him to return since he didn’t give us a site when we called. We tried to call him but messages was full. Then he helped up back up but was not helping as he was telling us wrong way to turn and we are fine with backing up a camper. We paid the same as our friends although they had sewer and we did not. Not a place I would want to go back to ever. It was ok area for a one night just place to sleep.
