Heavenly Acres Campground

Very unique experience, staying in an old train car. The camp grounds for the train cars had a decent amount of space, didn't feel crammed in or close to other sites.

We camped there twice in the past year. The owners are great, and very helpful. We had a non-family groups each time, and the campground was perfect for it. The group campsite is very large with lots of room to spread out. We had nearly 20 people, and could have easily doubled our number. The second time we had a larger tent site and it was perfect for our group of 10. We had several smaller tents and had room to spare within the site. The site had plenty of shade and wasn't right up against our neighbors. The campground is well maintained and the owners and staff are around to see if you need anything or just to say hi. The tent sites have fire pits and a picnic table and room to relax. The ground is clear and you aren't setting up your tent on rocks/pebbles like you find at many parks. They do have play areas for kids and a pool is open during the warmer months. We were very happy and will definitely consider going back.

We stayed at Heavenly Acres over Memorial Weekend after our plans to camp in Shenandoah were foiled by the holiday weekend rush. Honestly, it may have worked out for the better! We loved Heavenly Acres! Plus, it was only a twenty minute drive from the Skyline drive Swift Run Gap entrance. The campsite we had, 16, was perfect for our needs--it was just me and boyfriend. It had plenty of shade, a picnic bench, and a nice sized fire pit. The campground itself had a flushing toilet nearby, and a bathhouse with hot (maybe too scalding hot, to be honest) water for showers about a ten minute walk, if that. If you have kids, there was also a playground centrally located, as well as one near the pool. Additionally, they had an ice cream social both Saturday and Sunday night, which was really cool! Owners very friendly and helpful. I would definitely recommend this spot to anyone, and am looking forward to returning!

Wonderful experience. Rented a site on the weekend in late October, so we didn't have to deal with much in the way of crowds. We reserved our site online, and had no issues at all checking in, finding a nice site, and setting up. The owners were both incredibly friendly, helpful, and seemed accessible at any time (as other reviewers have said, they live on-site). Example of their friendliness: we asked if they sold hot chocolate in their little shop, and the owner said no, but he might have some in the house if we wanted it. We declined, but it was a nice gesture. All the amenities are available if you need them: showers, restrooms, etc. There was a well-water pump close to our site. They even have an arcade. We wanted to unplug and be as rustic as possible, but the options are there. If you're looking for a wilderness experience, this won't be it, but if you want to build a fire and sleep in the woods, you can't go wrong here. Great place.

This is a great campground. I have been here four times. The grounds are well maintained, the owners are constantly out and about ensuring the trash is removed and the bathrooms are clean. There are family activities on the weekends. I have stayed in two cabins which are well maintained and affordable. There is plenty of tent camping and trailer camping. This is close to Skyline Drive (about 30 minutes) and about 15 minutes from Shenandoah National Park. Old Rag Mountain is about 40 minutes away and a great trip. So based on location, friendliness of the owners and the maintenance of the campsite I would recommend this place to anyone.
