Hennepin Canal - Bridge 14 Campground Introduce

Hennepin Canal - Bridge 14 Campground, located in Sheffield, IL 61361, offers a rustic and scenic camping experience for those seeking a quiet getaway. As part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it provides a natural setting for outdoor enthusiasts.

According to customer reviews, the campground is praised for its "location and beauty," offering a sense of privacy and tranquility. The site is described as having ample space for a few campers, making it ideal for small groups. However, it's important to note that access to the campground is via approximately 2 miles of gravel roads, which may be a consideration for motorcycle riders or those with vehicles sensitive to rough terrain.

The campground offers basic amenities, including two fire pits and two picnic tables. Campers should be aware that there are no designated campsites, and the parking area is primarily grassy and somewhat uneven. Pit toilets are available, but other facilities, such as showers or water hookups, are not provided. The nearest water source is reportedly at the Visitor Center, about 1.5 miles away.

Despite its rustic nature, the campground is well-maintained and clean, with visitors encouraged to pack out their trash. The surrounding environment is described as beautiful, and wildlife, such as eagles, can be observed. However, the campground's proximity to an expressway, albeit across a cornfield, means that road noise is audible, though many campers find it tolerable.

In summary, Hennepin Canal - Bridge 14 Campground offers a secluded and scenic camping experience for those willing to embrace its rustic charm. The quiet atmosphere and natural beauty make it a worthwhile destination for campers seeking an escape from the hustle and bustle. However, visitors should be prepared for gravel road access and limited amenities. It is recommended to bring sufficient water and supplies.

I’m gonna give it five stars because of location and beauty. By far this location is the best of the rest as far as beauty and privacy . Take heed if you’re on a motorcycle there’s only two ways to get here both of which are down 2 miles of gravel so if you’re afraid of rocks and clay think twice.. There is good space for a few campers (5 couples tops) but unfortunately, there’s only two fire pits and two picnic tables so the other three couples/campers if they dont know the other folks they would be without a fire pit and a table which in the scheme of things is no big deal. Please note: There’s only one issue with this location and that is, It’s about 2-3 miles straight across a cornfield from the expressway and every car and semi truck that goes by You can hear the road noise . the good thing Is you get used to it unless they hit the rumble strip and then it reminds you that you’re acornfield away From progress. Which in many cases and for many people, it shouldn’t bother them because they vote for and like progress.. this location is kept up nicely and very clean thank you to everyone who camps here and visit this place for taking out what you bring in and you throw your garbage in the can that’s next to the parking lot . It was nice to see the Eagles here as well . Follow me and all my travels around the country on Instagram at mylifemyterms55

This is a quiet campground and in the country away from noise, but not to far from the interstate. You do have to go on a dirt road a little over a mile to get to it. The road was not bad when we went. The parking is mostly grass and a little unlevel. Not to many spots for campers but grassy area for tents. No sites marked where to camp. There are pit toilets but did not use. No other facilities available there. Visitor Center is supposed to have water which is about a mile and a half away.

If you love the constant roar of semi trucks on I-80. This is the place for you. Lock 17 and 21 are way better!
