Highway 9 Campground Introduce

Introduction / Overview: Your Tranquil Gateway to Lake Eufaula

For Oklahoma residents seeking a peaceful, family-friendly getaway on the water, the Highway 9 Campground—officially known as Highway 9 Landing Campground—is a premier choice. Nestled on the scenic shores of Lake Eufaula, the largest lake located entirely within the state of Oklahoma, this Army Corps of Engineers-operated facility offers a classic, amenity-rich camping experience. It’s an ideal spot for those who value lakeside recreation, convenience, and a relaxed atmosphere.

Despite its name suggesting proximity to a major thoroughfare, guests consistently find this campground to be surprisingly serene. As one camper noted, "This is absolutely one of the quietest campgrounds I've ever stayed at. Especially considering it's right off of a highway. Traffic seem to not be very much after 10:00 or 11:00 at night." This balance of accessibility and tranquility is one of the campground's main appeals.

Highway 9 Landing is known for its well-maintained grounds and direct access to Lake Eufaula’s abundant recreational opportunities. With approximately 80 campsites, the park caters to both RV enthusiasts and tent campers, providing a beautiful backdrop for fishing, boating, and swimming. It is a genuine Oklahoma treasure where the natural beauty of the green hills meets the vast expanse of the lake.

Location and Accessibility: Right Off the Highway, On the Lake

Highway 9 Campground is situated on the northeastern side of Lake Eufaula, near the small community of Longtown, Oklahoma. Its location right off State Highway 9 makes it incredibly easy to find and access, especially for campers towing large trailers or RVs.

Official Address (Longtown Area):

6GR5+44, Longtown, OK 74462, USA

(The facility is often described as being East 8 miles on Highway 9 from the town of Eufaula, following signs to the landing.)

The campground is operated by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (COE), ensuring well-managed facilities. Its direct adjacency to Lake Eufaula means that several sites offer stunning lake views, and the boat ramp is just steps away. While the park is easily reached, the evening hours bring the quiet that makes for a restful night under the stars.

  • Regional Proximity: Located conveniently off State Highway 9, linking it quickly to the town of Eufaula and major regional highways.
  • Large Vehicle Access: The roads within the park are generally paved and manageable, accommodating larger RVs, though some interior roads and sites may be tricky for the largest fifth-wheel campers due to tree trimming considerations.
  • Gate Hours: Gates typically open at 6:00 AM and close at 10:00 PM, maintaining a secure and quiet environment during the night.

Services Offered: Equipped for Comfort and Convenience

Highway 9 Landing Campground is a Class A camping area, meaning it is well-equipped with standard amenities to ensure a comfortable stay for all visitors, especially those with RVs.

  • RV and Electric Sites: Approximately 65 sites offer electric and water hookups, with available service including both 30 and 50 amp connections. A small number of pull-through and ADA-compliant sites are also available.
  • Non-Electric Sites: About 15 sites are designated for non-electric camping, ideal for tent campers or smaller rigs that prefer a more rustic setup.

Features / Highlights: Lakeside Fun and Top-Tier Fishing

The true stars of Highway 9 Campground are the recreational features provided by its location on Lake Eufaula—a body of water celebrated throughout Oklahoma for its size and quality fishing.

  • Sandy Swimming Beach: The campground features a beautiful, naturally sandy beach area designated for swimming. This is a significant draw, with one user calling it "absolutely one of the best areas to swim. There's a lot of sand around so it's naturally sandy." The area is clearly marked with buoys for safety.
  • Direct Boat Access: Two dedicated boat ramps are available on-site, providing easy and quick access to the lake for all types of watercraft. A nearby marina offers additional services.
  • Outstanding Fishing: Lake Eufaula is regionally famous for its excellent fishing, particularly for crappie, sand bass, catfish, and black bass. Anglers often target massive striped bass below the dam, making this a prime spot for dedicated fishermen.
  • Quiet Camping Vibe: Despite being near the highway, the overall atmosphere is peaceful, making it great for relaxing, reading, or enjoying quiet campfires, especially outside of peak summer holiday periods.
  • Well-Maintained Grounds: Campers appreciate that the "grounds cut and clean," reflecting the COE’s commitment to a tidy and pleasant environment, even in the middle of the off-season.
  • Hiking Opportunities: A variety of hiking trails wind throughout the surrounding hills and along the shoreline, offering a chance to explore the natural scenery and vibrant autumn colors of the region.

This is absolutely one of the quietest campgrounds I've ever stayed at. Especially considering it's right off of a highway. Traffic seem to not be very much after 10:00 or 11:00 at night. It's a great campground for tent camping, or smaller pull behind campers. Fifth wheel campers will have to be careful as the trees aren't trimmed as frequently anymore. They have absolutely one of the best areas to swim. There's a lot of sand around so it's naturally sandy. Don't go out past the buoys while swimming I saw a boat is barely missing those boobies come skimming across there. There is water hookups 50 and 30 amp hookups and a nice flat area for the dump station. And plenty of trash dumpsters.

Nice campground , grounds cut and clean. You can hear road noise. Site north 36 very uneven, did have electric & water. Campground had dump station easy to use. Not real busy in middle of November. When arriving just went to site we had reserved, never talked to host , and never used bathhouse.

this place is great if you’d like to fish, but the campground sure could use a lot of work. Many sites are uneven, have lots of debris in them, etc.

Dog friendly (keep on leash and pick up after them). Beautiful campsite with water close by and 30 amp electric. Very clean and Marvin (the gentleman at the front gate) is awesome, friendly, funny and just an all around nice man. He was very accommodating after we had problems at a hwy 9 east campsite. Thank you Marvin!
