Hogan Reservoir Introduce
For those of us living in Wyoming, the allure of a quiet lakeside retreat, where the mountain air is crisp and the fishing is good, is irresistible. Hogan Reservoir Campground, nestled near the vibrant town of Cody, offers just such an experience. This isn't a bustling resort with endless amenities, but rather a cherished Bureau of Land Management (BLM) site that embodies the true spirit of Wyoming camping: a beautiful natural setting, a sense of peace, and opportunities for classic outdoor recreation.
Hogan Reservoir is a prime example of why we locals cherish our public lands. It provides a chance to unplug, enjoy the simpler things, and immerse ourselves in the stunning landscapes that define our state. Whether you're an avid angler hoping to reel in a trout, a paddler seeking calm waters, or simply someone looking for a serene spot to unwind for a few days, this campground offers a memorable escape. While it operates without the full hookups you might find at private RV parks, its natural charm and well-maintained sites more than compensate, especially for those who come prepared for a more self-sufficient adventure.
The reviews from fellow campers consistently highlight the welcoming atmosphere and the natural beauty of the area, making Hogan Reservoir a favored spot for repeat visits. It's a testament to the fact that sometimes, the best camping experiences are those that prioritize nature and tranquility over extensive facilities. If you're looking to spend quality time by the water, under the vast Wyoming sky, Hogan Reservoir Campground should certainly be on your radar.
Hogan Reservoir Campground is situated near Cody, WY 82414, USA. More specifically, it's part of the Hogan and Luce Campground complex, located approximately 18 miles north of Cody off Wyoming State Highway 120. To reach the campground, you'll turn left onto Park County Road 7RP and continue for about five miles, then look for the Hogan-Luce Trailhead sign and take another left onto the one-mile-long access road to the site.
For us Wyoming locals, Cody is a familiar and popular destination, known as the "Rodeo Capital of the World" and the eastern gateway to Yellowstone National Park. The drive to Hogan Reservoir from Cody is scenic and generally straightforward, taking you away from the town's bustle into more open, natural terrain. While the access road might involve some "tight-ish turns" and is unpaved, it's generally well-maintained and accessible for most vehicles, though larger rigs should approach with caution due to the turns and the lack of traditional hookups. The beauty of its location lies in its ability to feel wonderfully remote and peaceful, even though it's a relatively short drive from a major Wyoming town. This balance makes it an ideal spot for a quick getaway or a longer, more extended stay for those who appreciate serene lakeside camping without venturing too far off the beaten path.

Great spot! We loved our 4 night stay. Heads up for the big rigs, no hookups and tight(ish) turns to get in. The sites and roadways are well maintained and we caught a nice trout out of Luce. Got a bit busy on a Saturday night, (8 established sites were full and had a few parked in the slots by the entrance) but very friendly local crowd for the most part. We will be back!
Absolutely enjoyed my 48 hour camping trip up here. It was pretty nice during the visit. Beautiful 75° plus weather. Water levels were high. The dock is out. The vault toilet was about the worst part, looks like that hasn't been cleaned since it opened for the season... Overall; it was a relaxing and would definitely stay here again.
Hogan is a hidden gem! The views are amazing and it's pretty quiet. We swam, hiked, and paddle boarded. The camp sites were recently upgraded with new tables, fire rings, graveled parking spaces, and more. The only downside is the wind. It is usually nice but when the wind kicks up at night, it was literally like a hurricane and we thought the camper was going to blow over. It may be best to only visit during the day!
Nice out of the way place to camp near Cody, WY. There is a pit toilet but no other services. Camp sites are right on the lake. There is good bird watching here.
Gorgeous spot with proper camping spots and bear boxes. Wanted to stay for more than one night but very drunk local men would not stop harassing me and I did not feel safe.
