Ah, the Holiday Inn Express in Durango. A beacon of cleanliness, comfort, and a breakfast that could make a grown man cry tears of joy. The staff? Absolutely delightful. The beds? Fluffy clouds of slumber. The breakfast? So good. But then… the $10 parking fee. I suppose they expected me to levitate into town or perhaps arrive via horseback like a true Colorado pioneer? I’m not sure, but considering I did, in fact, bring a vehicle on my road trip (shocking, I know), this felt like a bit of an unnecessary nickel-and-diming. However, the real curveball of my stay was the air conditioner. Or, should I say, the stealth mode fan that refused to stay on like every other Holiday Inn Express I’ve ever stayed at. I rely on that sweet, soothing white noise to sleep, so I inquired at the front desk. Their solution? Adjust the temperature every five minutes like I’m training for some kind of insomnia-induced Olympic event. Determined not to be defeated, I did what any modern traveler would do—I consulted YouTube University. In a mere 30 seconds, I unlocked the secret code to override the system and bask in the uninterrupted hum of airflow all night long. So, dear fellow travelers, if you ever find yourself in this same predicament, just know: the power is in your hands (and a quick Google search). Would I stay here again? Maybe. But I might just expense that parking fee to my new side hustle—teaching guests how to hack their AC units.
Really irritated with all the fees and payments we had to do. $10.00 per night for parking. $10.00 per person for breakfast at the hotel. $4.00 fees for improvement fee. • Hotels should provide parking for their customers. Where else do they expect us to park… • They ask for $50.00 up front just in case if something gets damaged in the room. But in reality they just plan to take your money either way. • The water pressure in the hotel rooms are horrid. It was irritating that they set a setting on the water. Guests should have the freedom to enjoy and feel cozy, not controlled. • The ice machine was so loud. We heard the machine constantly going off and it was not peaceful. Really disappointing honestly. My husband and I wanted to do a small getaway without our kids as we have not been able to get away in over 2 years.
Rooms were clean and roomy... I found the staff to be friendly and helpful! The water pressure was awful! And the cleaning service didn't make the bed or replace our washcloths, they pulled the blankets up and gave us more hand towels. 😁 Their breakfast buffet that was ten dollars is free at other hotels. It's a continental breakfast without the waffles! The service staff was awesome in the restaurant too! The name is deceiving, there is another Holiday Inn close to downtown that should have that name. We wanted to stay within walking distance to the train and dining. All in all it was a good place though.
The hotel itself is very nice, but for a couple of factors we would’ve given it a five. The rooms were nice. The staff was friendly and accommodating. They answered every question we had and we’re able to give us directions. Our only complaint was that one of the elevators was out of service, which made it a bit difficult when the tour bus was dropping off people laid in the evening. The other issue was the attached restaurant would need the breakfast there but dinner and beer were excellent. All things considered. We enjoyed our stay, which was an extended stay and we will go back.
The staff here is absolutely amazing. My husband and I stayed here for our honeymoon. I ended up getting sick during our stay they were the nicest most accommodating people we have ever experienced at a hotel. Everyone deserves raises and praises. We love yall.
