Holloman Lake (Public Access) Introduce

Nestled near Holloman Air Force Base in New Mexico, Holloman Lake (Public Access) offers a unique and serene camping experience for travelers seeking tranquility and natural beauty. This hidden gem is just minutes away from the breathtaking White Sands National Park, making it an ideal stop for nature enthusiasts and adventurers alike.

The campground is situated by a picturesque lake surrounded by majestic mountains, providing a peaceful environment for relaxation. One of the standout features of Holloman Lake is the opportunity to watch jets take off from Holloman AFB, adding an exciting twist to your stay. The site is free to use and accommodates both RVs and tents, with a spacious parking lot-style setup that allows campers to choose their preferred spot.

While Holloman Lake is known for its natural beauty, it’s important to note that the lake is actually a wastewater evaporation pond. Despite this, visitors have consistently praised the site for its cleanliness, peaceful atmosphere, and proximity to White Sands NP. The lack of designated camp spots adds to the laid-back vibe, making it a favorite among free-spirited travelers.

We arrived after dark and it was easy to get into the parking lot. It’s not specific camp spots but more like a bit lot where people can park. Lots of people were camping. I thought it was odd that no one had mentioned that this lake is actually a wastewater evaporation pond. Liked that it was free and near white sands NP

That entry ramp is a scary one but I made it through in my 22' vintage rv just fine. The sunsets are incredible and mid week it was very quiet (from other campers, there were jets until 10pm) for me to spend the night. A unique stop on this beautiful planet.

Beautiful sunsets. 3.5 miles to White Sands national Park. 15 miles to Alamogordo New Mexico. Entrance is tight for longer RVs especially if towing. We Had to disconnect toad on our 37 foot Motorhome but we did get in. Road can be rough in areas but is doable. Water is toxic. Keep your animals out of the water. Do not fish or swim. No restrooms, garbage or showers. Pack it and pack it out! Please clean up after yourself so we can all continue to enjoy these free areas. They are closing many of them down!!!

This is public land so there are no amenities. The water is toxic so you cannot use it or swim in it. Keep the dog out of the lake. Spots are fairly flat. Beautiful view.
