Well worth the hike, this location not only has beautiful views of Mt Shasta peak and its surroundings, but it is an important piece of its history for almost a century (1922) and its well preserved. It has a natural spring, camping grounds and well taken care of toiletes (believe me, you will be grateful for that once you make it there too). Absolutely gorgeous 🙏🏻
Its a moderate hike up the mountain. Approximately 2 miles from Bunny flat. Good stopping point for those heading to the summit. Please donate to help take care of the area and the compost bathrooms. Caring people are engaged in keeping the bathrooms open and making sure you have fresh spring water.
It is a 2 mile hike to here from Bunny Flat or a similar distance from Sand Flat. (4 mile round trip) The hike in has some short views but the real payoff is at the horse camp and for those who continue up the trail. You do not have to be hiking to the summit to benefit by seeing the really nice views at the horse camp. There is good water at the camp for refilling your water bottles.
The only word to describe this hike is BREAHTAKING. Ending elevation is 7780 feet. Now I know why Joe Kapp came here in 1972 to film Climb An Angry Mountain with Fess Parker.
Beautiful hike, only 1.6 miles from Bunny Flats.
