Beautiful views. Way out there. Extreme privacy. Very little shade, or cover from wind. Glad we brought extra gas. Personally, Devil's Kitchen #4 is my favorite campsite in the Needles.
According to the NPS ranger we spoke to when getting our backcountry permit for this campsite and Elephant Hill off-road trail, they told us that this campsite was as “out there” as it gets in The Needles section of Canyonlands NP. They were absolutely right. The site was WAYYY out there! There was perfectly pristine unspoiled desert wilderness in every direction. You’ll need a high clearance 4x4 vehicle that’s less than 84” wide to get there, but this place is a true gem of God’s handiwork.
Remote campsite, behind the rock makes a good place to set up a kitchen. Further back on the flats was a great place to watch the moon come up, a lunar eclipse when we were there. Beware, the rocks start to look like characters in a Stephen King novel!
Great, secluded campsite with great views. Plenty of space for our group. We were hoping to leave out Beef Basin but it was closed. This campsite is near the south end of the park, close to Bobby Jo campsites.
This was an unknown random pick. But, man was it awesome. Amazing trek to get here, and what a gem. We set up behind the spires at night, and watched Jaws in the middle of the desert!
