The camping is a little crowded, but the pads are really nice all right next to the water and there are a lot of them. The lake is really pretty and there are many private little beaches where you can post up for the day if you don’t have a boat. The rangers are friendly and reasonable. $10 entry fee to horsetooth reservoir. I’d recommend checking it out especially if it’s your first camping trip. Easy to get to and it’s always fun to be on water camping. The dogs loved swimming on the hot day in June.

Nice drive through the mountains to get to the reservoir. There are picnic tables available throughout. Be careful while driving and becoming distracted by the views as there are areas that do not have a guardrail. I did not see anywhere where you can rent a boat, so I was bummed, but know better for next time.

Beautiful camp ground and cabins! The staff is really friendly and helpful here. It is a dog friendly campground, but I don't think you can bring your pets inside the cabin.

We absolutely love Horsethooth Reservoir! It is the best boatable lake in Northern Colorado, and the camping is our favorite summertime activity. During the 4th of July they have daily activities on the water, like boat parades day and night. Get there early, or the lake could be at capacity, and you won't be able to get in until 3 pm.
