Great rustic camping spot. The sites are very small but you coke here to see the sunset and sunrise! Camp sites here get you access to sunrise pass which you'll watch at the visitors center and/or observatory up the volcano side - plan on driving up there for sure! Views are amazing. Toilets are rustic but there is a push button sink so you can brush teeth and drink water. Cool enough that there's no bugs. Layer up, in January 2025 it was ~40 overnight, lots of trees so not much wind but does get very chilly compared to Hawaii weather.

Clean, organized, and convenient. The check in process is seamless, there is an after hour check in pavilion with lots of additional info. There is 5G cellphone service at the campsite. The bathrooms and bbq grills that are there are well maintained and taken care of. The parking lot is located nearby and there is also a nature trail to explore with lots of Hawaiian birds in the area. It was a great experience overall.

This campsite is a great location if you are planning to visit the Haleakala summit or hike any of the trails. There is a trail directly from the campsite. The temperature drops in the evening/early morning, so plan to wear layers. It warms up as the sun rises. The campground has a grills, picnic tables, trash cans, parking space and an outhouse. Something to note is that, parking spaces are tight (but doable) if you are planning on using a rooftop camper or camping van. If arriving late at night, and setting up camp in the dark, be mindful of your sleeping neighbours in nearby tents or vehicles. The campground is very quiet and every noise can be heard. Overall, campground is well-kept by visitors and the park.

Stayed the night here before backpacking into Haleakala. Very nice and quaint. Loved that each site had a spigot. Reserve your spot in advanced. We went in Oct during off season so there were def spots then. I saw people here lighting a fire and I believe that is not allowed so pay attention to the rules.

Exceptional place to see some special birds when the right plants/trees are blooming. We saw lots of 'I'iwi right in the parking lot! It's a short hike to a lookout where there's even more viewing. This campground has picnic tables and restrooms.
