Absolutely beautiful campground. Well maintained, beautiful river with swimming holes. There were fire pits and picnic tables at each campsite. They had good spots for tents and it was generally quiet enough because of the trees and a little bit of distance between campers. There’s no service, which to me is a plus, but I thought I’d mention it anyway.
We did a day visit by chance and really liked it. It offers a few trails, easy, and medium. The views are great. Offering a picnic area and a dipping area only a few feet away from the parking lot, it makes it easy to enjoy a day trip. We did the trail to the waterfall which is short and leads you right to it. You can climb down to it. Plenty of signage to keep you on trail. We then did the Santiam Wagon road trail (about 6 miles) and it takes you thru some very vegetated areas. It's dog friendly!
Small but beautiful county managed campground. Recommend reserving a site in advance. Traveling from central Oregon to Florence, we decided to call it a day after driving through smoke from forest fires. We did not have a reservation but found an open site, possibly because of the nearby fires. We enjoyed soaking in the river and hiking up to the waterfall.
Beautiful campground in the Willamette National Forest, located next to the South Santiam River and near the Historic Santiam Wagon Road. Hiking trails to the historic rock that once served as a shelter to pioneers and a nearby fall. Fall is best in spring and fall when water levels re high. No safe good view of fall and limited access depending on abilities. Rough camp sites with fire rings, narrow gravel road into park.
I think House Rock is very fascinating. The fact that it was thrown here from the eruption of Mount Mazama 180 miles away, more than 8,000 years ago is amazing to me.
