Very accommodating and lovely staff (99%) and lovely rooms! The breakfast was great and the seating options are perfect. The pool was weirdly cold for the dead of winter. There were also amenities listed in the website that were not present which was disappointing. (No microwave in the room felt strange, too, given the price range, but whatever.).
The fitness center was out of order for maintenance, no towels in the pool area, thought there was a hot tube, the Placery restaurant wasn’t open for food when we returned in the evening even tho online it showed open hours, no complimentary coffee in the lobby like most hotels, breakfast was horrible, items not refilled quickly, coffee was out and not refilled, we were told check out time was 11 but door in room says 12, beds are hard and uncomfortable. We stayed at Country Inn a few weeks prior when visiting Grand Rapids and thought we would try something different, very regretfully. Won’t be recommending. Maybe just short staffed but when you pay to stay somewhere you hope for a good experience!
The property is very nice as are the rooms, which are also very spacious and comfortable. However, we were charged $50 per room for early check in by the manager on duty, Conner who was arrogant and rude. Yolanda was awesome though. There was no-one at this hotel, housekeeping did not need to prepare these rooms, they were sitting vacant. All of the World of Hyatt membership info available online indicates charges as low as $10 for early check-in. Travel plans change, flights get canceled, delayed and weather also impacts road travel. We are touring and performing artists, and book 3-4 hotel rooms per night and have booked literally 1000's of hotel rooms in our long career and we will think twice about using Hyatt after this bad experience. We'll go back to Holiday Inn, who welcomes us for an early arrival without add'l fees and with warmth and understanding that travel plans can change, and can be stressful. Do better Hyatt Place Grand Rapids South. Oh yeah, worst breakfast ever.
Don't stay here. I booked 2, Queen Beds rooms. I called the manager Conner several days ahead of time to see about getting the rooms next to each other. He assured me that he had 2 Queen Beds rooms side by side and even gave me the room numbers that they would be. When arrived, there were no Queen rooms available, only a couple King bed rooms that were NOT side by side. I was traveling with my family and we needed the extra beds. We just wanted what we booked. They did not have enough staff, no clean towels, no food, nothing. Don't bother wasting your time here.
Room was very nice and comfortable. Typically the several Hyatt Places we have stayed at had a nice selection of hot items for breakfast like eggs, sausage, etc. There were only donuts and waffles, and such which was a huge disappointment from previous stays. This makes me question whether to stay at Hyatt anymore.
