Ice Art Park Tent & RV Campgrounds Introduce
For Alaskans living in or passing through Fairbanks, finding a convenient and affordable spot to set up camp can sometimes be a challenge. That's where Ice Art Park Tent & RV Campgrounds comes in. This unique local spot offers a pragmatic solution for both tent and RV campers, providing a no-frills yet welcoming environment that caters to the practical needs of those exploring the Interior. While it transforms into a dazzling Christmas drive-through light show in the winter, during the summer months, it becomes a down-to-earth campground, offering a budget-friendly and surprisingly laid-back option for locals. It's a place that, despite its unconventional surroundings, fosters a sense of community among fellow travelers and provides a functional base for your Alaskan adventures.
Ice Art Park Tent & RV Campgrounds is conveniently located at 3574 Phillips Field Rd, Fairbanks, AK 99709, USA. This central Fairbanks location offers both advantages and unique characteristics. Situated "bounded by three highways," with an "airport flight path above" and "emergency services somewhere near," along with a "railway line some distance away," it's certainly not a wilderness retreat in the traditional sense. However, for Alaskans, this accessibility can be a significant benefit. It means you're just a short drive from Fairbanks' amenities, services, and attractions. While some might find the sounds of the city and transportation a trade-off for quiet, for many, the convenience outweighs the occasional background noise.
The accessibility extends to its direct road access, making it easy for both RVs and tent campers to navigate to their spacious plots. While it's noted as being "bit run down," the general consensus from local users is that for its "inexpensive" price, it's a perfectly viable "option" when "not many options in Fairbanks" are available, especially for those who prioritize practicality and affordability over absolute pristine quiet. The ease of getting in and out, combined with its central location, makes it a sensible choice for those passing through Fairbanks, needing a place to rest, or setting up a basecamp for day trips to explore the surrounding Interior Alaska, from Chena Hot Springs to the Dalton Highway.

Conclusion: Why This Place is Suitable for Locals
For us Alaskans, Ice Art Park Tent & RV Campgrounds isn't just another place to camp; it's a practical, no-nonsense option that perfectly fits the Alaskan lifestyle. We know that sometimes, especially when traveling through larger hubs like Fairbanks, you need a convenient, affordable, and straightforward place to rest your head or park your rig. This campground delivers exactly that. While some might be deterred by the sounds of a city (traffic, planes, emergency services), Alaskans often see these as the background hum of progress and accessibility. We appreciate the honest, "bit run down" aesthetic, understanding that it translates to "inexpensive" and "laid back"—qualities we value over pristine, overpriced alternatives.
The "huge spots" for both tents and RVs are a major plus, allowing for comfortable setup, something often hard to find in more conventional parks. And the "super friendly people" who run the place resonate deeply with the Alaskan spirit of community and mutual understanding. We’re used to dealing with "gentle misquotes" (mosquitoes) in June; it's just part of the summer charm here in the Interior, and a good reminder to pack that bug spray.
Ultimately, Ice Art Park offers a practical basecamp for exploring Fairbanks and beyond. Whether you're making a run to town for supplies, planning a day trip to Chena Hot Springs, or preparing for a journey up the Dalton Highway, this campground serves as an unpretentious and reliable stop. It’s a testament to the fact that in Alaska, sometimes the best options aren't the fanciest, but the ones that are real, friendly, and genuinely useful for our unique needs. It’s a true local's choice in the heart of the Golden Heart City.

Bizarre experience. Bounded by three highways, airport flight path above, emergency services somewhere near, railway line some distance away. If you need a quiet night’s sleep then this is not for you. In the winter it is a Christmas drive-through light show, in summer it’s an inexpensive place for RV and tent camping. $25 per night for our tent. Big plots and clean toilet block. Bit run down but who’s complaining. Lot’s of ‘gentle’ misquotes in June kept us in our tent. Not many options in Fairbanks so it’s an option.
Super friendly people at Campground, very normal and down to earth to people. Cool campground with Christmas theme like. Huge spots, clean quiet, bathrooms and showers. Owner that runs it very friendly Laid back ..
Planning on spending some time in Fairbanks? Don't want to spend $200 or more for a hotel? Have a motor home or trailer? Give Ice Art Park Tent & RV Campground a try. It's not super fancy, there's not much more than a spot to park your camper or pitch a tent, but it's quiet, it's in a great location for getting out and around Fairbanks, and it's cheap! No water hookups or dump station, just electric hookups, but that's all I wanted anyway. The camp sites themselves are nice and wide. We were able to back the RV in, open the awning, and still have room to park the car. They have picnic tables and fire rings available too at no extra charge. It is close to the rail road yard so you'll hear some train horns, it's also close to the airport and planes pass low over head; fortunately they don't run the trains at night and the airport isn't crazy busy at night either.
This place is a dump. It took me 14 emails to get a reservation here and less than 14 minutes on site to get off the property. The dump station was broken. The entire place was overgrown and totally unkempt. Junk everywhere. Don’t wast your time with this place. My wife and I have camped from coast to coast in Canada and this place is at the absolute bottom of our list. Avoid at all costs.
Nice place for airplane viewing, love the jets that blast through there! Wakes up grandma pearl for her 4 hour medication routine everytime, so i can be outside like a man, doing manly things! Ok, fine, ill confess, i was doing the dishes outside building 5. Next time I'll buy paper plates so I can spend more time working on my man image! Interesting place for zombies to run around and feast on Brains, they have some collection there, with many varieties to chews on! So if you relate to this comment, and are looking for a late night snack. I recommend you come by and check it out! Before the snow comes by and covers it up for the year! As the owner says, "Have An Ice Day!"
