Icewater Creek Campground is strategically situated in Cle Elum, WA 98922, USA. Cle Elum is a well-known gateway to the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, offering a blend of small-town charm and direct access to vast wilderness areas. This central Washington location makes it a manageable drive for many residents across the state, particularly those coming from the Puget Sound region, Eastern Washington, and the Yakima Valley.
The campground is specifically located on Taneum Creek, approximately 20 miles south of Cle Elum via Taneum Road (Forest Road 33). Accessing the campground involves navigating some unpaved sections of road, which is standard for many forest service campgrounds in our region. Visitors should be prepared for gravel roads, and while generally accessible, larger RVs (30ft+) might find the turnaround areas a bit tight, as noted by some previous visitors. The journey itself offers scenic views as you get deeper into the national forest. It is advisable to check current road conditions, especially during shoulder seasons, as weather can impact accessibility. This excellent location serves as a perfect launchpad for exploring the extensive trail networks and natural beauty of the surrounding Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest.
Icewater Creek Campground provides a more rustic camping experience, catering to those who prefer simpler amenities and a focus on outdoor activity. While it's not a full-service resort, it offers key conveniences for campers:
- Campsites: The campground features 15 individual campsites.
- Restrooms: Vault toilets are available for campers' use.
- Picnic Tables: Each site is equipped with a picnic table for comfortable outdoor dining.
- Fire Rings: Fire rings are typically available at each site, though visitors should always be aware of and adhere to any current fire bans (e.g., Stage Two Fire Ban as of July 2, 2025, in the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest, prohibiting wood/charcoal fires but allowing propane).
- No Potable Water: Campers should plan to bring their own drinking water, as potable water is not typically available on-site.
- First-Come, First-Served: Sites are generally available on a first-come, first-served basis, meaning reservations are not typically taken, so early arrival is recommended during peak seasons.
- Fee Site: There is a nightly fee for single sites (e.g., $24/night), with potential discounts for Interagency Senior/Access passes.
These services ensure a functional and authentic camping experience, aligning with the campground's focus as a base for outdoor adventure rather than a luxury destination.
Icewater Creek Campground stands out for its unique features and the direct access it provides to an extensive network of outdoor recreation opportunities, particularly appealing to the motorized recreation community:
- Motorcycle Adventure Base: This campground is highly regarded as an excellent base for motorcycle and dirt bike enthusiasts. Its prime location offers direct access to a vast network of dirt trails and gravel roads, making it a dream destination for off-road riders.
- Access to North Fork Taneum Trail #1377: A significant highlight is its direct access to the popular North Fork Taneum Trail #1377. This trail is well-known in the region for its varied terrain, offering routes suitable for both beginners (especially the access trail from the campground) and more experienced riders. It's a key artery for exploring the surrounding wilderness.
- Beginner's Motorcycle Loop Trail: A dedicated beginner's motorcycle loop trail originates right within the campground, providing a safe and accessible area for those new to off-road riding or for families with younger riders to practice.
- Small, Intimate Setting: With only 15 campsites, Icewater Creek offers a more intimate and less crowded atmosphere compared to larger campgrounds. While it can be active with moto enthusiasts, it often provides a sense of camaraderie among like-minded individuals.
- Close to Taneum Creek: The campground is situated next to Taneum Creek, which contributes to its rustic charm. While it can be about 10 degrees colder near the creek, providing cooler temperatures, it also offers the soothing sounds of flowing water.
- Abundance of Dirt Trails and Gravel Roads: Beyond the main access trails, the surrounding area boasts an immense network of dirt trails and gravel roads, providing endless possibilities for exploration, hiking, and wildlife viewing.

Nice base for a moto adventure. Early June weekday and we had the place to our own. Amazing dirt trails and gravel roads all around.
Small spots, it's about 10 degrees colder next to the creek. Not great for tents but if you got RV who cares. Little tight in the turnaround, wouldn't want to drive 30ft+ RV in. This is moto campground so don't expect peace and quiet. Kids singletrack up the hill is actually pretty challenging. Watch out for all the posts pretty much there to dent your rigs up. Location is great to catch the 1377 trail to the goods.
This newly renovated park is a terrific place to spend a weekend in the woods. There are individual and group sites available and include a creek that runs through it. The creek is fun to play in and the flow is minimal so it’s safe for most kids.
Stayed there with a couple dogs. Had the place to ourselves. Peaceful. Our spot was up against the creek.
Good campground. I'll use it again and recommend it. No running water. Two small outhouses. Campgrounds are not very secluded. Small bridge across the creek leads to a cub motorbike trail.
