Imp Lake Campground Introduce
Imp Lake Campground, located in Watersmeet, Michigan, offers a rustic and classic camping experience. As a part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it provides essential amenities and access to a picturesque lakeside setting.
The campground is known for its vintage infrastructure, reminiscent of 1990s national forest campgrounds. It features well-maintained but older facilities, including vault toilets that appear to be over 40 years old and vintage all-wood picnic tables. This gives the campground a historic charm.
Amenities include multiple outhouses, a dumpster for waste disposal, and drinking water from hand pump wells. A boat launch and a picnic area with a swimmable shoreline are also available, making it suitable for various outdoor activities.
A notable feature is the nature trail through the woods, offering a valuable hiking opportunity for campers. However, it's worth noting that garbage has been reported as a recurring issue at the beach area.
The campground has two loops: the first and largest loop is open during summer and early fall, while the second loop remains open year-round. There may be questions regarding fees during off-seasons when drinking water is not provided.
Drinking water is supplied by two iconic hand pumps, one in each loop. However, they may not be in service during early spring. Despite this, campers still utilize the lakefront sites in the second loop.
Imp Lake Campground offers basic amenities, including vault toilets and drinking water, catering to campers who appreciate a simple and natural camping experience. The location is scenic, with a hiking trailhead, picnic area, and boat landing, providing ample opportunities for outdoor recreation.

A nice spot to camp if campground camping is your thing. Plenty of outhouses, a dumpster, water from a pump well, boat launch, and picnic area. Garbage is still a problem at the beach which is idiotic. The nature trail though the woods is a great bonus and worth the hike!
The age of infrastructure here makes this place a historic gem. Imp Lake Campground looks like what you might imagine a national forest campground looking like in the 1990’s. The vault toilets appear to be 40+ years old. Picnic tables are the vintage all-wood variety that got replaced across most Midwest national forests years ago. But infrastructure here has been well maintained; for the most part, things are still in good shape. The first and largest loop of this campground is open only during summer and early fall; the second loop is open year-round. There’s some question as to whether fees are required during the seasons when no drinking water is provided. Two iconic hand pumps provide drinking water, one in each loop. As of mid May neither one was in service for the season yet. That didn’t stop a couple families from setting up camp in the second loop’s lakefront sites. Imp Lake offers just the basics - vault toilets and drinking water - but for the right type of camper in the right setting, that’s all you need for a great trip. The location is picturesque and boasts a hiking trailhead right at the campground. A picnic area with swimmable shoreline and a boat landing are immediately adjacent.
Great wkend spent great fishing and memories made✨️🎣🔥🐟🌛🌊😊
Beautiful camp site! Perfect escape from reality.
Called ahead to see if they had showers and was told yes. They lied. Had to chase my 5 year old grandson around with a pitcher of water trying to rinse the soap off bc the water pump was cold. We did not stay. We would have been the only ones in the place too. This is the only place out of the 5 that had garbage laying around. Hey campers clean up after yourself.
Had an amazing time here out in Michigan's beautiful wonders. One campsite perfect for a bunch of friends and the second campsite was perfect for a family with kids. Both access to the clear lake. One more kid friendly then the other. Wonderful get away.
What a gem of a campground. Lovely spot overlooking the lake. Very quiet but easy access off of Rt2. The second (or southern) loop has sites with a better view of the lake.
This is a rustic campground. Amenities are outhouse and water pump. Garbage cans. The scenery can't be beat. Very serene.
