Customer Reviews
I stayed at the campgrounds Memorial Day 2019 weekend. The campground is cozy and quiet. The camp hosts were very nice and knowledgeable about the area. I was hoping there would be a campground map but the park ranger hasn't had time to make one. The campgrounds is small and quiet. It is near the lake. They have hot FREE shower which was great and the washroom was also heated. I stayed at campsite 21, the only downside was not having two trees to hang up my hammock. Since this campground is lacking photos I took a bunch to share with future campers.
A great 3 season location. Winter's are void of visitors but it's the best time to explore without the heat. Great Campground, Spectacular views of the lake and surrounding Carson Mntn. Range. Very Wooded on the West Slope. Hiking, Mntn biking, fishing, Exploring and Geological rock hounds would love..Lots of seasonal wildlife with occasional Bald Eagle sitings. Established hiking trails and plenty of of old user and logging roads to explore. More info at #WileysWheelWorks on FB.
Just left (Fri 8/30) to avoid the Labor Day weekend chaos. Great campground. The host now is Tom, and he (and I assume his wife) run an excellent ship. When you arrive your camp site will probably be spotless. I saw them cleaning a just vacated spot like it was their own home. I was in an RV so I didn't need the camp's facilities, but they looked as clean as the camp sites. There's a nice hike that starts on the west side of the CG that goes up to a small lake over the ridge called Summit Lake. It's a pretty easy hike, 1.5 miles to the lake.
Site 2 had an amazing view, right next to the lake. There is a day use area with flush toilets. All camp sites have 2 parking spots and the sites have two places to put up tents. Buy firewood and coal while on way, there are no restaurant or shop nearby (within 2mi) where you can get it. You get a beautiful view of stars in the night, I would definately recommend star gazing at night, we even saw some shooting stars. Bear box is provided to store food, bring your own water, there are few faucets in the day use area as such, but not sure of the water quality.
Drove in and were greeted by Richard, the camp host. He pointed out some great campsites and mentioned the hot showers (free). The bathrooms were very clean with flush toilets and no bugs (this was September). The campground is next to the reservoir and less than 10 miles from Markleeville where you can buy supplies and find a number of restaurants.
