The road leading to the campground was the worst I have been on in Idaho..and I go off road a lot. It is horrible washboard and will beat up your RV is not taken very slow. On top of that the potholes in the campground are deep also..so watch for those. The sites are not well maintained and in need of attention but with no host and the Forest Service doing less and less every year it's not surprising. There is trash and water on site and a pit toilet. Could be a great campground...but you are better off finding a boondocking site before you reach the end of Iron Creek Road.

We were here early August, 2024. Road back was not nearly as bad as others have mentioned. In fact, I thought it was pretty good for a backcountry road. We are in a 25ft, 2-wheel drive sprinter rv and had no issues. We are at Site 2, next to a stream. The site is very spacious! Wonderful site - can’t wait to hike to Alpine and Sawtooth lake tomorrow!!!

I loved the location! Saw lots of wildlife, especially elk. This campground was just far enough away from the hussle and bussle of the Stanley Lake campground but still close enough to drive to the lake in about 20 minutes. Iron Creek is clean and beautiful! The distance between camp spots was good, and not on top of each other. It is remote, which I liked, but there are no outhouses or picnic tables. The reason for the 3 stars is the plague of mosquitoes! Bug spray & fire didn't even help. Had a hard time enjoying the outdoors because of all the mosquitoes and sadly had to spend much of my time inside my camper.

The campground is small and while there are more dispersed camping spots around, the only thing that justifies the price per site is access to the water pump and restrooms, which are pretty primitive. But it's the place to camp at if you're planning a hike up to Sawtooth Lake and for that it's good that it's there. The sites (8 in total) are all shaded with a fire ring, but pretty small. None of them would allow for more than a 8-person tent. The drive up to the campground is patchy and dusty. There's a pretty large parking lot at the trail-head so you don't have to technically camp in order to hike.

This was, in the past, a fantastic place. However, due to population growth and the in-flux of out-of-state visitors it has become yet another mass destination for tourists. Too many people, too many cars, dust, noise...etc. 100+ cars at/around the trailhead built for 30...you get the idea.
