Iron Horse was recommended to me by a friend who has been camping here for some years in one of the grounds cabins. I can do pros and cons for you. Pros: Cheap, Relatively quiet, Nice people, decent location (close to the Buffalo Chip and Full Throttle Saloon), Pavilion serves decent camp food, Laundry available, Showers are decent and there is ice available to purchase at the entry. Rick was good at ensuring that the place got quiet by 11 p.m.. There was also a small expo where you could buy t-shirts, patches and other clothing items. There was also a bike wash. Cons: -I'll start with very little shade. (There are only a few trees on the property. I was fortunate enough to camp near one of them and if you are tent camping make sure you have some sort of big umbrella or canopy over your tent. It gets freaking hot). -Laundry is expensive and have lots of quarters on hand. -The showers are good, but the stalls have these mats on the floor that hurt my feet. I recommend wearing water shoes or flip flops while showering. -I realize this was camping and in most cases I wouldn't care but I had to run my truck to charge my phone, batteries and other rechargable things. OR I could go sit in the laundry room or bathroom and charge my things. I later learned that if I paid for electric I could have had it. An option I wish I knew about in the beginning. -limited availability for water. While I could buy water at the pavilion, there is always a need for gallons if you have dishes to wash and need it for cooking. There was a spigot over by the laundry and one by the pavilion but there was no indication if they were okay to use. -The site is largely dominated by large Class "A" motorhomes, Class "B" and large 5th wheel travel trailers. Many of whom also brought their ATV's, side by sides or golf carts with them. So it gets a little hectic at times. -The pavilion. While the food is decent "camping food" (burgers and such), the entertainment was nothing short of abysmal. The Karaoke wasn't even that entertaining. The bands were not horrible, but they were not good. Though there were a few different acts performing, they all played nearly the same songs each to a different degree of suck. One band the gentlemen sounded remarkably like Willie Nelson, therefore every song sounded like Willy Nelson. There should have been games and contests and good rocking music to keep the attendees there and entertained. -The bike wash was up near the entrance and if you were camping down below and not near the cabins you had to ride your bike up the dusty gravel road to get there and back. Might have been better to have the bikini babes down near the pavilion. No matter, it seemed like they were hardly there anyway. -Not a fan of the gravel driveways into and through the campground. -Now the worst part. The "Free" WiFi. You get what you pay for. To say it sucked would be an insult to things that did suck. For comparison, using my iPhone as a hot spot was better. Their WiFi was worse than Satellite internet which is horrifically slow, in fact it is worse than dial-up from the 80's and 90's. I was told by one of the folks at the expo that about a week after the rally, Rick closes the place up until the following year. They told me he has never had the wifi modem or system updated or maintained. I was there for 11 days and it was difficult at times. I realize they have no control over the weather and temperatures, but if there were more trees on the property or wind breaks of some sort it would go a long way to cut down on the wind and rain effects. The staff was nice and I had no problems with them, really good people. My friend, who stays in the cabins each year told me the cabins are nice (electric and air con) but just pray it doesn't rain because the grounds around the cabins turn to thick mud very quickly. I don't believe I'll ever go back to Sturgis, twice was enough. But if I were to, I would opt for an AirBnB like I did the first year I went or I'd stay at one of the many other campgrounds with better amenities.

This place is awesome! We put our reservations in 8-9 months before we came to the 2024 rally, they sent us everything within I feel like 1-2 weeks quick I know that for sure! We get there and it’s a very big place! We tent camped, and let me tell you what, it was amazing…… we had a port a John out by the road and it STAYED CLEAN! They have shower rooms with bathrooms in them and they had HOT WATER AND VERY CLEAN SHOWER ROOMS!! This place literally was on top of it! Every morning seen people cleaning the restroom's!!! They have a bar/food stand that serves breakfast lunch and dinner! All the food was amazing, everyone that I was with even said it was good for what they served! Staff was nice every day and you know how some people can be when they are dealing with drunk adults that itself can be a handful, but still very nice!!! They even have ice for sale on site and trash bags!!!

First time staying here and in the queen cabin. Bed definitely needs updated but cabin was spacious enough and there’s a fridge. Star is amazing and friendly. Food is good and not outrageous price. Dirt roads well maintained. Hot showers and laundry. Nightly entertainment. Would stay again!

Windy but not the fault of owners. Chose to be on top of hill instead of down low. View was awesome to wake to and watch sun go down. You can also view buffalo in fields. Very clean and quiet place.
