Island Lake Campground Introduce

Welcome to Island Lake Campground, a serene and secluded destination within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, located near Wetmore, Michigan. You can reach us at (906) 387-2512 or +1 906-387-2512. Our address is Co Hwy 612, Wetmore, MI 49895.

Island Lake Campground offers a peaceful and quiet camping experience, providing a welcome escape from the hustle and bustle of nearby tourist areas, particularly Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The campsites are spacious, offering good privacy for campers. Some sites feature driveways leading into the main camping area, which can be convenient for parking multiple vehicles but may pose challenges for backing in larger campers.

The campground is divided into upper and lower loops. The upper loop features a cedar latrine, while the lower loop provides only a plastic portable toilet with limited space. This is a key difference between the two loops that visitors should consider.

Island Lake Campground is an excellent base for outdoor activities, including kayaking and fishing. The lake offers easy access for water activities, and the bass fishing is reported to be fantastic, with some small bluegill also present. The lake water is noted to have an iron-stained appearance.

Each campsite is well-maintained and includes ample space, a fire pit with a cooking grate, and a picnic table.

Here's what some visitors have to say:

  • "This campground was very serene and quiet. The sites all seemed large and had pretty good privacy. Our site had a little driveway leading into the main area which was convenient for parking cars (we had 3 lined up at one point) but did add a challenge for backing our 18(?) ft camper into the space. My only complaint was the upper loop had a nice cedar latrine but the lower loop where we were only had a port-a-potty, the plastic kind, with very little space."
  • "Nice secluded campground from the main tourism hustle and bustle of Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. I use this as my base camp for four nights. I was in site number two which is right next to the group site. I had easy access to the lake which was great for my kayaking. Bass fishing was fantastic and a few small bluegills too. The water was iron-stained as somebody had mentioned in a prior review see the picture for that. Otherwise every site was well maintained and had plenty of space and a fire pit/cooking grate and a picnic table."

Island Lake Campground offers a tranquil and well-equipped camping experience, ideal for those seeking a peaceful lakeside retreat away from the crowds.

Stayed here because of the short jaunt to Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. Standard campsite with good sized outhouse close by and near a beautiful little lake. Only complaint is due to inconsiderate campers going against posted sign by running their generator all night.

A beautiful spot for car/tent camping while pulling a small boat. Clear evidence of lively animal activity all around (my favorite are the timbered trees). Everybody was quiet and respectful in not-quite-dispersed lots. Not quite full privacy between lots but comfortable enough. Spot had a fire ring, a flat area large enough for a "6+ person" tent. Our lot was far enough away from the vault toilet and dumpster to be comfortable, while close enough a night bathroom run won't bother you. Really peaceful spot, will stop in the area again!

We love this campground! Right on a little lake and very secluded. Plus, the nicest pit toilet in the UP.

As of June 2025 the south loop has a new pit toilet just like the north loop. Some sites are first come first serve. Others reservable. Sites are spacious and fairly secluded. #6 had trail which leads to lake. Most sites better suited for tents and pop ups. #8 is most secluded and has no adjacent neighbors. No dings for mosquitos, although they were bad the two days we were there. Pack a headnet and repellant.
