Jack's Creek Horse Camp is a good place to stay with your horses if you want to ride in the Pecos wilderness. The best thing about this campsite was the camp host, Laura. She kept things spotless. The big horse water trough was always clean and full. The pit toilets were spotless and that's hard for me to say because those things scare me to death.. They're usually pretty filthy. the Corrals were unacceptable but this is not unusual for a forest service Campground. They were at least 10 inches deep in muck and mud partly because of the rain and partly because of some of the slobs that have been there before us and don't clean up after their horses. But they did let us put up a hot wire for a horses so that made everything great. We would definitely return to Jack's Creek
One of my favorite camping spots with plenty of beautiful scenery! The site host, Laura, was very nice and informative. She did an excellent job making the place look great and and making us feel welcome. We plan to to back again in a few weeks.
Camp has several corrals to put a horse in overnight if needed. Parking is $2/night. There is a restroom and non-potable water available. The horse trail #25 is next to a cattle working pen that will take you up to 257 then to Pecos Baldy Lake.
Always love going here, it's a shame it's getting over run with campers taking up all of the horse spots though.
Beautiful. Peaceful. Quiet. Lots of birds and other wildlife. Best time is midweek....
