Checked in per the sign, and let me tell you, these folks thought I was the coolest cat without even paying a dime! Not the most dog-friendly spot, but if you're a furry friend, you're welcome to tag along. The views of the lake and the Grand Canyon (Grand Junction is its gateway) are absolutely stunning. Definitely added some pep to my morning run!
A nice campground, spacious and well maintained. Each site has a shelter, picnic table, and a fire pit. Clean air-conditioned bathhouse. Small playground. Beautiful park on its own with trails along 2 lakes and the Colorado River. A short drive to the Beautiful Colorado Monument. No WiFi.
James M. Robb is a beautiful state park with a very nice and clean campsite for fifth wheels, campers, and RVs. There's plenty of parking, including a huge parking lot for multiple cars and RV's next to the boat ramp into the Colorado River. There's a clean and well taken care of playground for kids to enjoy. You can reserve a large fenced-in grass area with a large covered area and picnic benches for family parties, gatherings, or reunions. A wide, smooth 2 lane walking and biking path goes around and throughout the park, with a long stretch along the beautiful Colorado River, which has an amazing background of the Colorado National Monument. Opposite of this stretch of smooth paved path is a gorgeous nature preserve and lake with lush tall grass and flowers that is off limits to access. This is a favorite spot for the town locals to come to in the mornings to walk, jog, and bike. The path and park are pet friendly with multiple trashcans and free plastic poop bags to clean up after your furry friends. In various and multiple locations, there are also benches where you can sit to rest, take in the wonderful atmosphere, or enjoy some quiet time with a loved one or friend. This state park is in a secluded yet convenient location right off of the I70 interstate, with major franchises and local restaurants right outside the entrance. A City Market supermarket is also close and within a 5 minute drive on the other side of the interstate in case you stay a few days and need to replenish your goods or grab something that you forgot to bring.
Pulled in late and got a quiet night’s sleep and a shower with our paid reservation, thanks to the sensible system of sending a code for the bathrooms with the confirmation email. Campground is pleasant and shady and far enough from the freeway for a good nights sleep. Bathroom is spacious and clean. Showers need maintenance - we could only get one of the 4 in the women’s side to adjust temperature properly and couldn’t get the handicapped shower to work at all. We like to bird in the morning and this is an excellent spot for that. Accessibility: Air quality: campfires are allowed, but smoke in the morning was minimal. Bathrooms in campground and visitor center were both blessedly free of air freshener. Exhaust from mower chased us out at 9 am. EV chargers: Rivian level 2 by the visitor center and DC fast chargers nearby in Grand junction make this a sweet spot for EV owners. Flat sites and roads. Handicapped shower on women’s side didn’t work.
I stayed here for 4 nights in a Class C RV. I stayed in an electric only site, the sites are large and spread out. There's a water fill & dump at the exit. Nicely paved large & level sites, pea gravel area with covered picnic table. Bbq/ fire pit area as well as grassy areas in between sites. Very relaxing walking/ biking trails, river access, and walking/ biking distance from food, store, coffee etc. The laundry room is $2.50 per wash & $2.00 per dry. Big utility sinks and wash tubs along with a vending machine, playground & covered common/picnic area. Restrooms are large with multiple private shower stalls. The grounds are well kept and clean, maintained nicely. Lots of families. Some road noise, but not much. Would definitely recommend and stay again when I'm the area.
