Javelina Campsite Introduce
Nestled in the scenic landscape of Yavapai County, Arizona, Javelina Campsite provides an ideal base for outdoor adventurers seeking a mix of convenience and natural beauty. This campsite is part of the Bureau of Land Management (BLM) system, offering a budget-friendly camping experience with basic facilities for both tent campers and RV enthusiasts.
Visitors to Javelina Campsite can enjoy the serene surroundings while being close to popular attractions like Montezuma Well National Natural Landmark and other outdoor activities in the area. The campsite is particularly well-suited for those looking to explore the rugged landscapes of central Arizona, with easy access to hiking trails, fishing spots, and stunning views.
- Facilities: Javelina Campsite provides essential amenities including parking spaces designated for larger vehicles like RVs and trailers. The site has two separate areas: one for vehicles under 24 feet and another for longer rigs, ensuring that all campers can find a suitable spot.
- Environment: Located in an area with limited vegetation, the campsite offers a relatively open landscape, which is typical of BLM campsites. While the terrain may present some challenges for leveling, most campers find it manageable with basic equipment.
- Activities: The campsite serves as a launching point for exploring nearby attractions. Nearby, visitors can enjoy hiking at Montezuma Well, fishing in local waterways, or simply taking in the breathtaking desert scenery.
Customer feedback highlights both the pros and cons of camping at Javelina Campsite. Many appreciate its affordability and convenience, especially for those exploring the area without access to more developed campgrounds. The ability to accommodate larger vehicles is a significant advantage, as noted by one camper with a 31' Class A RV.
However, some visitors note that the site can become crowded, particularly on weekends and holidays. This is something to consider for those seeking a more secluded camping experience. Despite this, many campers find Javelina Campsite a worthwhile option due to its location and affordability.

Absolutely slammed on a Tuesday. So much so that people are parking literally right next to my van. Not a great area to have a real camping experience in. Fine for a night. Very unlevel too.
It is as nice as it can get as for BLM Camping. There are 2 lots for us with bigger RVs or trailers, Ours is a 31' Class A. It wasn't too hard to level off. The road is a typical washboard. There is a sign that allows less than 24' to go further in. Why don't the van and car campers don't go there? It was hard for me to maneuver around them.
Nice area great view of Jerome. Stayed here for a night and we liked it. My only issue is they don't like campfires but that's anywhere in up north because of fire danger. They're not too strict on it when the grounds are wet as long as you have a fire pit.
We ended up driving past it as it looked like a jam packed parking lot / refugee camp (even off season, during weekdays). Angel valley campground wasn't any better, just a bit more space. Kinda felt grimey compared to other dispersed campgrounds further north. Can't ask for too much with a free campsite, I guess.
Free camping, safe, has bathrooms at the beginning of the trail (so you need to drive to them), right near Sedona (20 min away from most things) and 15 min from Cottonwood rec center which is where I showered. You can stay free for 2 weeks of the month - the Forrest service guys come out each morning to do head counts.
Nice, free place to stay for a few days if your vehicle doesn't fall apart on the long, deep, washboard road into open areas. No services at all.
