Explore family camping activities that bring all ages together, from outdoor games and scenic hikes to memorable campfire fun that creates lasting memories.
Nestled in the picturesque town of Boulder Creek, California, Jay Trail Camp offers a unique camping experience for outdoor enthusiasts. This charming campground is part of the larger network of recreational facilities designed for those who love nature and adventure. With its convenient location near Big Basin State Park and the Skyline to Sea Trail, Jay Trail Camp provides an ideal base for exploring the breathtaking natural beauty of Northern California.
Jay Trail Camp caters to both tent campers and RV enthusiasts, offering a variety of campsites with basic amenities. Each site is equipped with a faucet providing potable water, ensuring that guests have access to fresh water for drinking, cooking, and cleaning. Restrooms are available on-site, complete with coin-operated showers, which provide hot water for a nominal fee. While the campsites are relatively small, they are perfect for those looking to experience nature without compromising on comfort.
One of the standout features of Jay Trail Camp is its proximity to popular hiking trails and points of interest. As mentioned by one guest, it's a convenient stop along the Skyline to Sea Trail, offering easy access to Big Basin offices and shops. This makes it an ideal spot for hikers looking to rest, refuel, or enjoy some treats like ice cream after a long day on the trail.
However, Jay Trail Camp is located in a hub area with neighboring group campsites, which can lead to increased noise levels, especially during peak hours. For those seeking a quieter experience, it's advisable to choose a different location. The campsite is particularly busy and lively until 9:30 PM, so guests who value peace and quiet should consider this when planning their stay.
Beyond its practical amenities, Jay Trail Camp serves as a gateway to some of California's most stunning natural attractions. The nearby Big Basin State Park offers abundant opportunities for hiking, wildlife watching, and enjoying the serene beauty of redwoods and rolling hills. For those traveling with recreational vehicles, the campground provides RV dump stations, making it a convenient stop for longer trips.
Customer feedback highlights both the pros and cons of staying at Jay Trail Camp. Many appreciate its central location and proximity to trailheads and amenities, which adds convenience to their outdoor adventures. Others have noted that while the campsite is well-equipped with essential facilities, it may not be the best choice for those seeking a quiet, secluded camping experience.
Overall, Jay Trail Camp is an excellent option for travelers looking for a mix of comfort and accessibility in a beautiful natural setting. Whether you're planning a short stop on the Skyline to Sea Trail or making it your base camp for exploring Big Basin State Park, Jay Trail Camp offers a welcoming environment for all types of outdoor enthusiasts.
The campsites are relatively small. There is a faucet with pottable water. There are restrooms and coin (quarters - a quarter for 2 minutes of shower time , I think) operated showers. This camp as it's in HQ, has lot of neighboring group campsites and easily accessible by road. Hence lit of noice till 9 30 pm. If you want some peace and quite do not camp here!
Another stop on the Skyline to Sea Trail. The Jay trail camp is nice because it is a short walk to the Big Basin offices and shops, where you can get some ice cream after a long hike.
