We only stopped to view the river, but were absolutely enchanted by the trees! It felt like driving into Jurassic Park with how large and lush and dense the foliage was! Absolutely amazing, especially if you live where nature looks nothing like that!
A very nice campground with clean bathrooms and coin operated showers. Stayed in February and it was very quiet. Massive redwoods! 1-2 bars of service AT&T. WiFi at guard shack.
We saw this on the map and decided to check it out for the night. Kevin at the gate was exceedingly helpful! He truly went above and beyond with assisting us to find the perfect spot. We are thrilled to find such a gorgeous location!! We wish we had been here in season when the visitor center was open, but we will definitely be back. Every single person we have met, whether camper or staff, has been so very friendly. The sites are spaced comfortably apart with plenty of greenery between each. Each site is prettier than the next and most are fairly close to a bathroom. The bathrooms and showers are spotless and the price for showers is fair. Only way to improve would be to have a change machine on site for the showers. There may be one somewhere, but not at those closest to us.
We had site 55 and it was really nice. We noticed we got a lot of vehicles passing through which was weird because that row of campsites dead ends (there is a loop at the end). There are visible signs with campsite numbers for the other rows, so no reason for others to pass through. Maybe they were curious? Who knows. The campsites are a really good size. You can hike through a small amount of brush and over lots of rocks to get to the river. It's very peaceful out here unless you have neighbors that have several kids playing and singing loudly (it was really cute though) or another neighbor that likes to get into his vehicle a lot in the late evening and early morning. You just never know. What we don't understand is why over half of this campground was closed. We saw this with other campgrounds, too. It's not snowing. The weather was beautiful. They weren't doing any kind of renovations to the campsites. We were lucky to get a reservation for two days. Other people said they couldn't get a reservation because it was full. Why not open up more campsites? Is this how all national and State campgrounds are run? I guess i need to do more research. So book your campsite as early as possible.
Great campground! Has basic amenities such as drinkable water, bathrooms, firewood for purchase. Had no problems with neighboring campers or their animals. Did get rained out one night, but fantastic otherwise!
