Jefferson County Fairgrounds Introduce
For local users seeking a straightforward and often event-centric option within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, the Jefferson County Fairgrounds presents a practical solution. While primarily known for hosting the annual Jefferson County Fair and various other community events throughout the year, the fairgrounds also offer temporary camping and RV facilities. It's important to understand that the camping experience here may differ significantly from that of a traditional scenic campground focused solely on recreation. Instead, it provides a functional and often conveniently located base for those attending events at the fairgrounds or needing short-term accommodation in the Jefferson County area of Washington State.
The environment of the Jefferson County Fairgrounds is inherently tied to its primary purpose as an event venue. The landscape typically consists of open fields, exhibition halls, livestock barns, and parking areas. While it may lack the natural scenic beauty of dedicated campgrounds nestled in forests or along lakeshores, it offers a central and accessible location within the community. The atmosphere can vary greatly depending on whether an event is taking place. During the fair or other large gatherings, the fairgrounds are bustling with activity, creating a lively and social environment. At other times, when no major events are scheduled, the area can be relatively quiet and offer a more basic, utilitarian camping experience. The grounds are generally well-maintained for their intended purpose, with infrastructure in place to support large numbers of visitors and various activities. However, campers should anticipate a setting that is more functional than picturesque, with the primary appeal being its convenience and accessibility, particularly in relation to local events.
The services offered at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds for camping and RVs are typically more basic and focused on providing essential amenities for short-term stays. RV sites are generally available, often offering electrical hookups. Water hookups and sewer connections may be more limited or may not be available at all sites. It is crucial for RV users to inquire specifically about the availability of these services when making arrangements. Tent camping may also be permitted in designated areas, which are usually more open fields rather than secluded individual campsites. Restroom facilities are generally accessible, often the same facilities used during events. The availability and condition of showers can vary, so it's advisable to confirm this beforehand. Potable water sources are usually available on the grounds.
Given the nature of a fairgrounds, services may be more limited outside of scheduled events. During larger events, additional temporary facilities might be brought in to accommodate the increased number of visitors. Waste disposal facilities are typically provided. Security measures are usually in place, especially during events, but it's always wise for campers to take their own precautions to secure their belongings. Unlike dedicated campgrounds, the Jefferson County Fairgrounds may not offer amenities such as laundry facilities, camp stores, or organized recreational activities. The focus is primarily on providing a place to stay, often in conjunction with attending an event.
The features of camping at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds are largely centered around its functionality and location. Its primary feature is its convenience for those attending events held at the fairgrounds. Being able to camp on-site or very close to the event venue can be a significant advantage, eliminating the need for daily commuting and allowing for more time to enjoy the activities. The open spaces can sometimes be suitable for larger groups traveling together, providing a communal camping area. The fairgrounds often offer ample parking, which can be beneficial for those with RVs or towing trailers. The central location within Jefferson County can also make it a practical base for exploring the surrounding area, although it may require driving to reach specific natural attractions or recreational areas.
Another feature, although variable, is the atmosphere during events. Camping amidst the buzz of a fair or festival can be a unique and social experience. However, campers should also be prepared for potential noise and activity levels associated with such events. Outside of events, the fairgrounds can offer a more budget-friendly and straightforward camping option for travelers passing through or needing a temporary place to stay in the area where more traditional campgrounds might be fully booked. The flexibility of the fairgrounds to accommodate different types of camping setups, from tents to large RVs (depending on site availability), can also be considered a feature.
Promotional information for camping at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds can be less structured than that of dedicated campgrounds. Any "promotions" are often tied to specific events. For example, camping fees might be included in certain event packages, or special rates might be offered to participants or attendees of a particular fair or festival. To find out about any such offers, it is essential to check the information related to the specific event you are interested in. Outside of events, camping fees are usually determined on a per-night basis, and there may be different rates for tent sites and RV sites with varying hookup options. It's best to contact the Jefferson County Fairgrounds directly or visit their official website (if available) for the most current information on camping fees and availability. Local tourism websites or event calendars for Jefferson County might also provide some information.
Given that the primary function of the fairgrounds is events, availability for camping can fluctuate significantly. During the annual Jefferson County Fair and other major events, camping spaces may be in high demand and might need to be booked well in advance. At other times of the year, availability might be more open, but services could also be more limited. It is crucial to contact the fairgrounds administration directly to inquire about camping availability, rates, services, and any specific rules or regulations. They will be able to provide the most accurate and up-to-date information based on the current event schedule. Online booking may or may not be available, so direct communication is often the best approach.
In conclusion, the Jefferson County Fairgrounds offers a functional and convenient option within the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, primarily catering to those attending events at the fairgrounds or needing short-term, basic accommodation in the area. While it may lack the natural amenities of dedicated recreational campgrounds, its central location and availability of essential services like RV hookups and restroom facilities make it a practical choice for specific needs. Local users should be aware that the environment and services can vary depending on the event schedule, and direct communication with the fairgrounds administration is recommended to obtain the most accurate information regarding availability, fees, and any event-specific camping promotions. For those whose camping needs align with event attendance or a straightforward, accessible location, the Jefferson County Fairgrounds provides a viable option in Jefferson County, Washington.

They have locks on the bathrooms you have to put in a code and you have to rent a space with an RV or a tent in order before you are ever to get the code to be able to go use the restroom or shower and what if you don't need to rent a space in order to go to the bathroom what if you just need to go to the bathroom and you just can't and you can't get a code well that just sucks
It's 2025 and The Port Townsend Fairgrounds look like they're stuck in the 1970s. Buildings are in rough shape. Baseball Fields are unattractive.
Rented an RV spot for work and it was very quiet and the people were friendly. We had an issue with the electrical connection so we had to go buy an adapter but other than that it was great. Really nice surrounding neighborhood
Location is fine and easy to get to. The bathrooms/showers have week water pressure but stays hot for as long as you want it to stay hot for. They do have heaters in there but I think the people that run the campgrounds there unplugged them from their power source because they don't turn on anymore and it's freezing in there when you're taking a shower and I don't think I'm the only one who doesn't like being freezing during and after their shower...
This campground is located at the far end of the county fairgrounds. It is fairly tidy, has restrooms, electricity hookups, and is in a nice quiet neighborhood about a 1/2 mile from the beach. It's about 7 minutes from town, with a bus stop nearby. It allows pets and is next to an old track that's nice for short dog walks. There is no privacy between the small sites--no trees, no bushes--so you are on view and relying on the good manners of your neighbors.
