Beautiful island to explore! Recommend bringing or renting a golf cart if you want to see it all unless you are an avid cyclist, it’s a lot to expect to tackle on two wheels. Driftwood beach was beautiful, Holly Jolly Jekyll lights were amazing, staff was kind and professional. We had an issue at our site and they sent someone out until the problem was made right. We will absolutely be back with our class C, kiddos and pup!
Close to trails and the beach and pier! Well run and kept very clean. The hosts were helpful and friendly! I had a tent site that was private and the campground was super pet friendly! Love Jekyll Island and Driftwood beach!
This is a popular place. Nearly fully booked even though the rest of the island was nearly deserted in late October. it's not a bad place, just not great. Overall has a gloomy feeling due to the numerous tall trees. Those same trees rain down debris with the slightest passing breeze. Your rig and tow vehicle will be covered. Sites are close together and the surface is a gritty dirt which turns to gritty.m mud with any precipitation. Lots of mosquitoes! It was fine for a short stay. I know many folks stay for the season but I can see the attraction. The island is nice and I enjoy the bike trails. Bathroom facilities were nice and clean.
Primitive sites are quite spacious. The camp hosts were very friendly and kept the grounds nice and clean. We, unfortunately were constantly picking ticks off our bodies in late November. We live in the SC Lowcountry and understand pests are to be expected, but ticks this late in the year and after a cold snap was not something I considered, so be prepared. For this reason, I will not be returning to the campground and don’t recommend for other primitive campers. The island is so quaint and beautiful and worth a visit!
You cannot beat the location for this campground. The campground staff is very friendly and helpful. Unfortunately, the facilities and the sites are inconsistent. We were put on a buddy site so we are facing the campers next to us. Our first neighbors were very friendly. Our current neighbors are very quiet and respectful which is lucky. They are not friendly and it seems they don’t appreciate that we are pointing in the opposite direction of most of the campers, but we had no choice. It makes for an awkward interaction. The site itself is bigger than many similar sites, many of the sites are crammed together, so you really need to do some research on which site to pick. We allowed ourselves to be randomly assigned and I wouldn’t recommend that. There are many bathroom buildings, but the majority of them are a disrepair with many toilets and showers out of order.
