Jellystone Park™ Chincoteague Island

My grandmother has been coming here since it was Maddox. She said that this was the worst it had been. We stayed in 2 cabins. One cabin has dust everywhere, one air conditioner had an error code, and there were no towels. The other cabin had no towels, both air conditioners had an error code. When the maintenance guy came he didn't look into it, and just brought us a big heater. We had 3 heaters in total but we could only use 2 before the breaker blew. The oven was filthy. The fans had a quarter of an inch of dust on them. There's a picture that had all of our complaints down below.

Staff does not care. The bathrooms were not cleaned the whole 4 day weekend. I spoke with Bonnie twice about the bathrooms being dirty and out of toilet paper. The one toilet that did have paper had fecal matter on it. She said she would have someone attend them, but that never happened. Campers were bringing their own toilet paper with them to the bathrooms. I also inquired about renting an e-bike, and when I asked Bonnie if I could reserve it for the following day, she told me to just come in the morning. When I came the following morning, she told me someone had reserved the last e-bike. Bonnie lied to me on several occasions. I liked this campground but would not stay again until staff cares about their customers. I thought that jellystone and sun outdoors held their campgrounds to a standard like thousand trails or koa, but I guess not. I hope they clean it up because the location is good and the island only has a few options to choose from, two of which are sun outdoors campgrounds.

Chincoteague is a very special place, a perfect haven for tourists to experience coastal Virginia’s charm. This campground has one of the best pieces of land in town to experience the area. We have been several times over the years, from tent to cabin. One can only hope that the current owner Jellystone maintains the integrity of this land by heeding the reviews that are piling up. They have an amazing opportunity to keep families making memories for years to come. The views and proximity to the wildlife refuge cannot be beat.

If I could give the service 0 stars, I would. To the lady working the front desk at check out, being petty and choosing to blindly follow rules that don’t make sense is bad business and alienates the customers that make the business that employs you thrive. We were one of the only occupants of cabins on the entire campground- as one might imagine, checking out on a Tuesday in November. I requested an hour extension on our checkout time from 11:00 to 12:00 at 9:45 ( plenty of notice, not just at the time of checkout), and the receptionist/day manager at the front desk told me that she couldn’t accommodate my request because they had a tight cleaning schedule and guests following us in. They had at least 8 unoccupied identical cabins that the next guests could’ve checked in to, and only one cabin other than ours to clean of that type. Housekeeping was finishing up cleaning that cabin as we were leaving at 11. She very easily could’ve made an exception but chose not to. Great work- you single-handedly ruined an otherwise perfect stay at a campground that is perfectly located to have fun. I hope you enjoyed exercising your control over your tiny domain.

Perfect stay! We absolutely loved everything. Great views, clean cabin, lots of fun! We loved having the waterpark available and all of the daily activities offered by the campground to keep the kids entertained.
