The scenery of lake Dewey and the mountains are amazing. Please. Take the short trip to Prestonsburg and visit the mountain art center. Just the hairpin turns alone makes the trip worth it. The May center has a really good buffet as well.
Nice cabins with a small kitchenette, a couple of bedrooms with 2 double beds each. The living room area sports a small pull out sofa. Full bath. Screened in back porch with metal furniture and a nice side porch with built in benches. The lake could be seen thru the woods at our cabin. Internet available. Also has a lodge to rent rooms instead of cabins.
The rooms are outdated, but quaint. The service at the restaurant was sub-par, but the steak was great! Check-in was easy, but good luck checking out early morning. Apparently they lock up the lobby sometime during the night, so I just stuck my room cards in the door jamb and left. But it is a lovely area with good views of the lake, so I'm not complaining.
Located in the heart of Appalachian’s the resort is named for a pioneer women Jenny Wiley who was born in PA she was captured by native Americans and witnessed the murder of her young brother and 4 Children. Also with child and after the birth of that child it was also murdered due to slowing down the journey. The state park is 2,871 acres of camping, hiking, birding, boating, and has a beautiful resort lodge. ,
The hike was very quiet. I was the only noisy one out there. Rooms are a little dated but clean and the views are great. The staff was very friendly. They make a real effort to make you feel at home.
