Nice sites with fish teaming right there! Watch for cow pies because once a day they wander through.
Understand that this is true survival camping. Don't expect amenities--you won't even have cell service. That being said... It's one of the most beautiful spots I've ever visited. The trees are hundreds of years old, the bluff is incredible from a geology standpoint, and the river is cold and clean. I would live there if I could. If you visit, please respect nature! Don't bring dirt bikes and ATVs, don't chase the cows, pack out your garbage, and don't let your dogs run.
Would recommend to any travelers passing through. This is not like a typical campground; its a chunk of private land that has been set aside for campers to use (so dont expect electricity, etc). We had 2 hammock campers and trees were few and far between, but we made it work with paracord extentions. Dog friendly. Peaceful river flows right along the property. Super cool spot for 10$ per tent. Must go to Jerome's house or find him to get permission, then go down the road to the camp property. Watch out for cow pies and you will be good. Firewood available. Picnic tables, fire pits, and 2 pit toilets.
This is one of my favorite places to visit not just for camping but for a walk on a nice afternoon. With permission from Jerome the owner who "lives at the farm with the Rock Barn"as the sign on the gate says. His family farm has been there for atleast 3 generations thankfully preserving this beautiful place so that many others generations have been able to enjoy the beauty that is Castle Rock or Jeromes Campground. Once the town of Castle Rock park over my grandmother told me stories of picnics and social here. Though before it was a town there was a Native american worksite and village located in this valley. The Kickapoo and Menominee along with other tribes made this spot a home over the centuries. There was once a historical marker down the road that was recently removed. The about 700 ft Bluff above for an excellent the view of the Fennimore fork below and surounding hills and valleys. The Fenimore fork goes thru the campground and is great for fishing, creek stomping, swimming and even tubing. I've been going here all my life and now take my children to enjoy. It's family friendly but also great for solitude with excellent rustic campsites. Great place for rustic camping or as we called it Cowboy camping. Here there is no modern convinces like electronic or water hookups just the river. There are two very clean and well kept old style outhouses and a couple porta potties. The best part of the cowboy camping experience is the cows come thru 2x a day and if your lucky they'll stay. It's an excellent place for tents and you can get large Camper/rvs nicely by the looks up the large ones camping. Just remember to be respectful to nature, your neighbor and of course Jerome and its a great place.
This is just a place to camp/crash for cheap if you happened to be in the area. We went there so we can go fish the trout streams around the area in the day and come back. Cow pies everywhere. No trees for hammocks. Majority of firepits don't have shade. Porta-potty's were smelly. The is basically a place set aside by Jerome so people can camp out. Cows walk through every morning at 10am. Jerome is a great guy. His brother is also great. I forgot his name. Would stay here again if in the area. Cheap and reasonable.
