The service is excellent, the hike close by was awesome, although if you're afraid of heights, may not be the best for you. The campground itself is great, showers are ok, lots of water pressure, but sometimes go from hot to cold on their own, not a big issue. It is worth mentioning that there is a train going by at multiple times during the day and night. Let's just say, it didn't make for the best nights sleep. It is a great place, enough space between the campsites, naturally beautiful, but that train whistle... highly recommend earplugs.
I loved being at Johnston Canyon Campground. Tucked into the mountains surrounded by nature. My site had the river in the back, my reservation included wood for the fire place, there is a place in the bathrooms to wash kitchen utensils and showers with hot water. Everything was super clean. I recommend it 100%.
We spent three nights here in early September. The cost for a no hookup tent site was very reasonable. The bathroom and shower facilities were very clean at all times, even though the campground was fully booked. Wood for campfires is available at no extra cost (a pleasant surprise for us coming from the United States), but an axe is helpful to cut kindling out of it. Our site (59) was flat and well-shaded, and we liked having a pull-through parking spot. We were close to the bathroom, trash, etc., but still had our privacy. We had T-Mobile 5G cell phone service as well. The location of the campground was the perfect fit for us. We were less than 30 minutes from the park and ride shuttle for Lake Louise and just across the road from a very busy hiking area, but it was quiet and relaxing at the campground. We will definitely stay here again if we camp in Banff in the future.
Great campground for families among tall trees and Johnston creek nearby. Clean, stocked up and heated washrooms. Shower available but only 1 for the washroom building where I went. Sunday mng June 2nd, no queue for shower. Walkable to Johnston canyon. Train issue- In the afternoon and evening, yes -heard the train 5-6 times but the sound did not bother me. Didn't hear the train passing during night time when I was asleep from 11 to 6. Maybe there were no trains that night, as I'm a light sleeper. Kids loved the campground. Sites are close by so privacy can be an issue for some people. But if your neighbors are nice and follow the basic rules, it is ok. No animal sightings, thankfully. Though there are wolf and bear warnings. No bugs, no ticks, no mosquitoes- June 1-2, 2024. Parks Canada staff is friendly and keeps patrolling often, which I really appreciated.
