Kamiah / Clearwater River KOA Journey Introduce
Welcome to Kamiah / Clearwater River KOA Journey, a welcoming campground nestled along the scenic Northwest Passage Scenic Byway in Kamiah, Idaho. This KOA offers a refreshing and surprisingly tranquil retreat, making it an excellent choice for Idaho locals seeking a comfortable and convenient base for their outdoor adventures in the beautiful Clearwater River Valley. Known for its pleasant atmosphere and a good range of amenities, it aims to provide a relaxing stay for all types of campers.
While the vast majority of experiences at KOA campgrounds are positive, as indicated by many happy campers, it's important to acknowledge that individual interactions can vary. However, feedback from many satisfied guests consistently highlights the campground's quiet nature, even during busy periods like the Fourth of July. Campers have praised the efficiency of the staff in maintaining cleanliness and responsiveness, such as promptly clearing fallen limbs after a storm and offering helpful touches like bringing fire pits and BBQs to sites. This proactive and friendly approach helps create a supportive environment for families and individuals alike. The campground's setting allows for a serene experience, where the natural beauty of the Kamiah Valley can be truly appreciated, providing an ideal escape for Idahoans looking for both relaxation and easy access to local attractions. It's a place where many campers plan to return, drawn by its "hidden gem" quality and the genuine sense of community it fosters.
Kamiah / Clearwater River KOA Journey is conveniently located at 4243 US-12, Kamiah, ID 83536, USA. This places it directly along U.S. Highway 12, a significant east-west highway that traverses Idaho and follows much of the historic Lewis and Clark Trail and the beautiful Clearwater River. Its position along the Northwest Passage Scenic Byway further emphasizes its picturesque setting and easy access to natural attractions.
For Idaho locals, the accessibility of this campground is a definite advantage. It's approximately 65 miles east of Lewiston, Idaho, making it a manageable drive for residents from the western parts of the state. From other areas of Idaho, such as Boise, the drive would be longer but still feasible for a multi-day trip, allowing residents to explore a different, equally stunning part of their state. The campground's direct frontage on US-12 ensures easy navigation for all types of vehicles, from cars pulling tent trailers to large RVs. Being on a major highway, but noted by guests for being "surprisingly quiet," means campers get both convenience and a peaceful environment. This strategic location allows Idahoans to easily reach a wide array of outdoor recreational opportunities and historical sites without extensive off-road travel, maximizing their time for enjoyment and exploration.

Customer Reviews
We booked the Kamiah Clearwater River KOA for the week of the Fourth of July. I have seriously never had such a relaxing stay at a campground. It was surprisingly quiet. All the RVs by us had dogs and we all were making friends. We did have a bit of a storm come through, my husband moved the limbs that fell on our sight to the end of our drive and we went to the pool came back like an hour later and it was all cleaned up. We also saw them bring over fire pits and bbqs to fellow campers. That was pretty cool. We are planning to return we loved this location its a little hidden gem.
A deeply disappointing experience from a fellow RVer As full-time RVers, we’ve stayed at countless KOAs across the country and have always found a spirit of hospitality and kindness—until tonight. Our RV’s hot water heater is currently broken, and after a long time without a proper shower, we called ahead to this KOA to respectfully ask if we could pay for a quick rinse-off. The woman on the phone (a blonde front-desk worker) said we could come if we arrived before closing. We assured her we’d be there by 8:05 PM and pulled in at 8:02. We arrived at the agreed-upon time. If this woman truly didn’t want to stay a few extra minutes, she had every right to say no—but instead, she said yes, then made us feel unwelcome for showing up. From the moment we arrived, this woman made it crystal clear we were not wanted. She reminded us multiple times how long she had been working (since 8 AM) and even went so far as to tell us—proudly—that she works 12-hour days, 7 days a week. She wore that like a badge of honor. But here’s the truth: no one should work that much. If you’re working yourself into bitterness and burnout, please take a step back and make a life change—because it’s painfully evident that you need one. Instead of serving with grace, she used her long hours as justification to speak to paying customers with visible irritation and contempt. She went on a cold-toned rant in front of others about how the public had disrespected their showers in the past and how they’re “done helping” with these kinds of requests. Her tone wasn’t just annoyed—it was venomous, condescending, and meant to shame. I was stunned. We were polite, showed up on time, and were willing to pay the frankly outrageous $10 per shower. What we received in return was judgment, scorn, and a very clear message: you are a burden and an inconvenience. And then she and another worker escorted me to the shower—like I was a potential criminal instead of a paying guest in need of basic hygiene. This wasn’t just someone having a bad day. This was someone who clearly hates their job, possibly their life, and uses their position to unload their misery onto others. You can feel the toxic energy the moment you walk in—and I imagine that’s why the other employees looked equally drained. To the woman who treated us this way: if your life is so heavy that you feel the need to dump your exhaustion and resentment onto strangers, please—for the sake of your soul and others—step back, reflect, and choose change. You may be carrying burdens, but it does not excuse you for becoming one. Scripture says in Proverbs 11:17, “Those who are kind benefit themselves, but the cruel bring ruin on themselves.” Kindness in business is not optional. It is the cornerstone of human decency. Your behavior isn’t just hurting your guests—it’s poisoning the spirit of your workplace. We noticed. Others will too. We will not be returning to this KOA. And as active RVers, we will be sharing this experience with our fellow travelers and online communities to help others avoid being subjected to this level of unkindness. There are too many other campgrounds out there run by people who still remember how to treat others with dignity. I sincerely pray that you find the light of Christ and remember what it is to serve with grace. Because right now, what you're spreading is darkness—and it hurts everything and everyone around you. Please pick somewhere else for your RV experience. This place is filled with poison.
Had a drive through site for an overnight stay - couldn’t be happier with the accommodations (very long drive through sites), grounds are beautiful and owners are incredible friendly and helpful! Perfect spot for group camping and convenient location. Will definitely be back!
Our Cousins have been holding bi-annual reunions for over 40 years at RV parks in Idaho and held 3 ('15, '17 & '19) here and skipped '21 & 23, but came back this year because of location and quality. My planning was mainly by phone and e-mails and Kristie and her staff always answered promptly and answered all questions. They made great improvements to the PowWow room which we have always used (has a kitchen) (no charge). When I arrived Thursday, 6/26, Kristie asked my Last name and then said "Hi Herb, do you want to be down with Bob (cousin) or up closer to the Powwow room" ... It's like she knew everyone of us by name ... and I saw her out and about with other RVers making sure they were comfortable. RV amenities (water, Power, sewer beast to access. Super impressed. Our group plans on being back in "27.
This was my second year I have went to this place and I have stayed in 2 different cabins and also a room and all of them are very clean and the beds are so so comfortable! The staff they are beyond amazing
