Customer Reviews
Small campground for 12 smaller than 30 ft rigs or tents. Most are much smaller. Rough bumpy road for miles ether direction on a first come, first serve campground. Has vaulted toilet with no water or other services. If full, would seek off road area on right just as you approach. Has older building of interest. There was a great horned owl in one of the few eucalyptus trees at the campsite. Quiet and nice area to take a hike or two with pretty nice views if you like the high desert landscape. Warning not to travel dirt roads after a rain as you’re likely to get stuck. Better if you come in from the north side (58) on paved roads, but would limit you to boondocking likely because unable to get to this or Selby campgrounds.
Very beautiful primitive spot. Small but intimate. Two pit toilets, with tissue and hand sanitizer (no sink). No trash, sometimes water at a single spigot for campers use only. Very quiet and peaceful. Would give 5 stars, but 14 miles (coming from the south) of rough road at 15 mph (in an RV!) to get to it. It's easier in a car. The road will flood when it rains, so try to avoid it for a few days afterward.
Beautiful intimate campsite. I went April 2023 and it was completely packed! A bit of a free for all where you park wherever you can and set up on any available patch of grass. Camp neighbors were awesome and friendly, bathrooms surprisingly didn’t smell. Few trails that you and your dog can explore on.
Surprising nice campground at the base of the hills & edge of a large valley. Clean with vault toilet, picnic benches, & fire ring. Good views, some nice spaces for walking. There’s a trail up to Caliente Mountain (which overlooks the campground) which starts from Shelby campground (7 miles down the road). Unfortunately there was a large group with generators running all night over the weekend. Not terrible but enough to be annoying when you come out for quiet & peace. Considering the remote location with no guns or ATV’s allowed it was daily busy with all sites full every night I was there. Wednesday-Monday.
We went there on a friday afternoon with our old class C motorhome. The road to get there is not very convenient for motorhomes but if you drive slowly, slowly you'll get there. 😂 We drove less than 7.5 MPH to be able to get there and it tooks like maybe an hour max... But indeed, the view is amazing, we were only 3 sites occupied as there is a lot of room. The owls were singing in the night and it seems to be the big attraction here (I am an enthousiast too !). So the drive to get there is awful but otherwise, the place is perfect for dry camping.
Very rustic. We were there to see the great 2017 flower bloom. The campground is a first come first serve. We were fortunate to get a spot with a picnic table. The best part about it was that it is free. The other campers all seemed to be very nice. The bathrooms were clean.
