I saw some other reviews and yes, the lodge and grounds have kept their quirky midcentury charm which I love because it reminds me of the golden age where our state parks and recreational areas were beloved. If you would visit more often, they’d get renovations!! I love our state parks’ lodges and cottages. If that turns you off, fine. BUT the staff and hospitality are second to none. From the front desk to restaurant to bar, the staff were friendly, helpful, but most of all welcoming. I recently attended a ‘murder mystery’ weekend and we had a blast. The entertainment was enthralling and it was so fun to mingle with the other guests and share clues. The food was extremely tasty and thoughtfully prepared. I have dietary restrictions and the staff exceeded my expectations. There were event themed cocktails that were only $6! I live in Nashville and the same cocktails would be $20+. Our room was clean and had a beautiful view of the lake. I appreciated that you could actually open the screened windows and enjoy the breeze and sounds of nature. I really hope they host future events like this- I’ve told all my friends about the fun we had. We also enjoyed the hiking trails, nature stations, and other numerous attractions in the park. 10/10!!!

The rooms are simple, as with most state parks, but they are charming. The syagg is outstanding - most hospital from desk staff I have ever come across at a stayed park (and I've stayed at several) We were only there one night passing through but I enjoyed it and would go back.

Our first visit was a disaster. The cottage we had booked looked like it was built 70 years ago and has not had a dime of renovations since. Small decks had no chairs and it looked like the interior had almost no furnishings. The "lodge" was no better, no lobby, no porch with rocking chairs, dark hallways, etc. Totally uninviting, we promptly cancelled and left after quite the drive to get there.

We had a great experience here. Beautiful area, lots to do. They were able to accommodate our family reunion, and had options for everyone. We stayed in the cabins, which were clean and well stocked, and a great price, however we did have a little mouse guest (not surprising for being the woods!).

My family and I happened to come across this hotel last minute while on a road trip. We loved it so much that we stayed a second night. I wish we could have stayed longer. We had a hotel room which was clean and comfortable. Breakfast was made to order and delicious. They even accommodated my daughter's request for chocolate chips in her pancakes. The scenery is beautiful and I loved the pool overlooking the lake. The game room was a lot of fun. The staff was very friendly. At times it felt like we had the hotel to ourselves and we enjoyed just walking around. Belew's Dairy bar was also a great place close by to eat. We will definitely be back again for a longer stay.
