I give this a 4 Star ONLY because they need sewer hook ups. They do have a local septic business that can come pump you at your site and you don't have to move which is nice. The staff is always helpful with things you may need and the October activities they plan are the absolute BEST! We stayed here this fall and I wanted to show you the beautiful "Trees of the Horse Park Campground!" The weather has been absolutely fantastic! Thank you Horse Park Staff for a great stay!!
Fantastic campground for kids. Several playgrounds, pool, well kept bathhouses, stocked general store and relatively flat for bicycles. We were one of the few tent campers in the main loops. No reservations aloud at the primitive sites. Loop A and C work best for us, placing our tent further away from the camper/RVs and under the large shade trees. Easy bike access to the pond/arenas/museums/visitor center via the Electric Primitive Campground and connecting Greenway beyond. About ten minute bike ride with our six & eight year old. Don't forget to purchase your discounted KY Horse Park tickets at the camp general store prior to venturing out.
Great campground, LARGE lots with asphalt pads. The pads are 6" tall so some rv's will have a rather tall first step (im going to buy a portable step like my brothers) that's the only negative thing I can say about this place. Lots of shade trees, benchs and fire rings. Nice campground store with clean ADA bathhouses. Basketball courts, pool and a Hugh playground. No sewer hookups so a line at the dump station on Sunday mornings. I am camping with a large group of family and friends so we had 5 travel trailers along the paved road, quite nice. Highly recommend !
My wife and I stayed here for two nights (8-10 August, 2024) in our 18' long travel trailer. The campground is YUGE (over 200 campsites) and is well laid out like a pair of human kidneys and designed to maximize land space. I'm surprised more private RV parks have not copied this very efficient land use design. The RV camp sites all have 20, 30, & 50 amp power outlets and water hookups, and hard asphalt parking pads that are nice and level. There are two large shower houses with laundries, one for each section (kidney) of the park. During our visit, the campground was about 95% occupied, and it seems to stay very busy all year round due to the Kentucky Horse Park and Horse Museum, which is immediately adjacent. Apparently the next door horse park is always hosting some kind of equestrian or rodeo event all year round. The only issue / problem we had while staying here was with the showers and laundry. There were several toilets and sinks that got clogged up in both the ladies and mens rooms, and on the first night we were there, the hot water was out. Additionally, we had to do two loads of laundry while staying there, and only 3 out of the 4 washers and driers were working. It took us 4-5 hours just to do those two loads because there was a wait for the machines. Additionally, there was no folding table in the laundry. Besides those few little gripes, everything else about this place was GREAT. It's very close to I-75 and only about 10 miles NW of historic downtown Lexington, and its sits right in the heart of Kentucky's beautiful bluegrass horse farm country, where there are numerous thoroughbred breeding farms and training facilities all within a 10-15 mile radius. We will definitely stay here again if we ever visit Lexington again.
I stayed at spot 86. It was a mud pit. The bathrooms are a hike away from that spot. There were plenty of showers and seemed nice. Warm water. They are building the Southern Lights displays and it was pretty cool walking out to see completed ones, the super loud impact guns or whatever monstrosity they use to build them was not cool at all at 7am.
