Kingston Campground Introduce
Kingston Campground, located in Hillsboro, New Mexico 88042, offers a free camping experience. As a part of the Campgrounds & RV Parks category, it provides basic amenities for travelers and those seeking a place to rest.
Based on customer reviews, Kingston Campground presents a mixed experience. It is noted as a free camping site with a creek running behind the campsites, which is considered a positive feature. However, the campground is located right off a road that, while not heavily trafficked at night, experiences significant vehicle traffic during the day. This includes large, loud vehicles.
The campground has limited capacity, with only two camping sites, each equipped with a table and fire pit. These sites are situated close together, which may be a consideration for those seeking privacy. A nearby residence with free-roaming goats and dogs has been reported, with potential interactions with these animals, including attempts to access food and trash. There have been reports of aggressive behavior from the goats.
The campground also serves as a stop for travelers, with the outhouse and a bench near the campsites being frequented by people passing through. This may impact the sense of seclusion for campers.
Key features and considerations include:
- Free camping.
 - Creek access.
 - Roadside location with daytime traffic noise.
 - Limited capacity (two campsites).
 - Potential interactions with free-roaming goats and dogs.
 - Public use of outhouse and bench.
 - Good motorcycle road access.
 - Presence of local law enforcement.

Kingston Campground may be suitable for those needing a place to crash for a night and who are comfortable with potential interactions with other travelers and animals. However, it is not recommended for those seeking a secluded and quiet camping experience. It is important to be aware of the potential for animal interactions.

Customer Reviews
As a free camping site, it's pretty decent. You're RIGHT off the road, which isn't crazy busy at night, but during the day it has a fair amount of large loud cars blasting by. The creek running right behind the camp sites is a nice touch. Neighbor house is alllmost visible from the camp sites, his goats and yappy obnoxious dogs aren't contained and might come try to eat your food, trash, etc. I had to scream at the goat pack to get out of our camp site, and at one point Alpha Goat-jerk truly looked like he was going to attack me. The sites, of which there are only two (two tables, two fire pits, two driveways) are RIGHT next to each other. So if your camp neighbor wasn't someone you know, it could be weird. During the day quite a few people came through to stop and eat food, which is no huge deal, but the only bench is also right next to the camp sites. The outhouse was a frequented stop for travelers as well. In other words, if you're trying to get away from people and annoying dogs, don't camp here. If you need somewhere to crash for a night, it's a pretty clean and safe-seeming place to rest your head. The road getting up there is a REALLY great motorcycle road. Like.... so so good. Many many tight twisties and great views.
Small site, two tables with the toilet at the opposite end of where the tables are. Goats visited me in the morning, while a deputy visited me the day before looking for a car burglar. Not a bad little campground.
Nice quiet little campground before you enter the Range...toilet facility is always well maintained
The creek was running. Wonderful rolling thunder as a storm came through in the morning. I love the goats! They did not bother us at all. And the dog was obviously being monitored for barking only minimal during waking hours. I thought this campground was a gem!
We loved it and found a spring!
Small campground before entering the Black Range..has a very clean rest area...one holer.....cross the stream and there is a good trail...moderate walking...approximately 3 campsites.
