Klipchuck Campground Introduce

Klipchuck Campground offers a unique and unforgettable camping experience for outdoor enthusiasts seeking a peaceful retreat in the heart of Washington's natural beauty. Located along State Rte 20 in Mazama, Klipchuck provides a perfect blend of seclusion and accessibility to some of the region's most stunning trails and landscapes.

This campground is ideal for those looking to immerse themselves in nature without the distractions of modern amenities. Nestled at an elevation of about 2,900 feet, it offers a cooler retreat during the summer months, making air conditioning unnecessary. The campsite is situated one and a half miles off the highway, ensuring a quiet and tranquil environment for guests.

Facilities at Klipchuck Campground include:

  • Primitive camping sites with no hookups
  • Fire pits for roasting marshmallows and enjoying campfire meals
  • Bathrooms with running water and essential supplies

The campground's location provides easy access to several hiking trails, including Early Winters Creek and the scenic Maple Pass hike. During your stay, you can explore these trails and enjoy breathtaking views of the surrounding mountains and forests.

Klipchuck Campground is particularly popular among visitors seeking a "boondocking" experience. With no water or electric hookups available, it offers a true back-to-nature camping adventure. However, during the winter months, guests are encouraged to bring their own firewood, as finding dry wood can be challenging due to frozen and wet conditions.

Customer feedback highlights the campground's charm and value:

  • "Great place to boondock! No water or electricity hookups, but that's part of the appeal. Miles from the highway make it nice and quiet."
  • "Visited during the off-season in November and had the whole campground to ourselves. The bathroom was clean and well-stocked with toilet paper."
  • "No fees during off-season visits, which is a huge plus. Loved the easy access to hiking trails and the serene surroundings."

Klipchuck Campground is more than just a place to camp—it's an opportunity to disconnect from the hustle and bustle of daily life and reconnect with nature. Whether you're a solo camper, a family, or a group of friends, Klipchuck offers a memorable outdoor experience that will leave you wanting to return time and again.

Great place to. boondock. No water, when we visit for some reason. No reservations needed, being a mile and half off the highway, made it nice and quiet. Sitting an elevation at about 2,900 ft. Helped with the summer heat. No a/c was needed. Easy access to Early Winters creek, with a few other trails to explore. There was no real mosquito problem to speak of. We will be visiting again.

We went during off season in November. No fees during this time. We has the campground to ourselves. We managed to scrounge for some firewood but it was frozen and wet - would highly suggest bringing your own during the winter months. The bathroom was cleaned and fully stocked with toilet paper. Photos are of the Maple Pass hike near the campground. Beautiful area.

Far too much noise from the highway in my opinion. Even though the road to the campground is over a mile it still runs pretty much parallel to the Hwy, so you're still just across the creek from heavy trucks driving at all hours of the night. Would not come back (maybe in low season it's not that bad when Washington Pass is closed to through traffic)

Great campground off the highway a bit. Clean pit toilets. Unfortunately water spigots were turned off for some reason. Able to get a spot w/out reservation during peak July tourist season.

Decent camp area. The spots have a barricade to prevent trailers from parking near the fire. I hadn’t seen this before. The creek is close by, maybe a 3-4 minute walk. It is small but can be heard while your in tent. Bathrooms are a pit style. Fresh water at taps around the grounds. No camp host was at our spot, don’t forget to pay😉
