A friend and I stayed here the first night they were open and it’s a gorgeous, huge campground with so many places to explore! Located right off of like superior, with very well priced campsites. The sites have brand new fire rings and a picnic table. There is fire wood provided that’s fairly priced for the amount you get. Also a drop box for cash, and venmo QR codes for card payments (The owners have the cutest most friendly dogs) definitely recommend:)
If you enjoy rustic camping, stunning views, private yet inviting campsites, and fantastic hosts, look no further! We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at Kona Hills, from exploring the campground and area to relaxing around the fire. We were in site 26, which is really close to a set of portable bathrooms and next to, but not overbearingly close to, where our friends were staying in site 25. I liked that most of the sites offer a lot of privacy with both the spacing and the trees; many campgrounds from my own experience tend to feel a little claustrophobic. The grates over the fire pit were an unexpected helpful touch for campfire cooking, and there is a water pump at the Welcome Area that is fun to use when snagging some drinking water. I really appreciate that the owners kept the development of the land to a minimum. Honestly, I can't say enough good things about this place; looking forward to coming back soon and bringing more friends!
Everything was new: the fire pit, picnic table and the porta potties and the porta potties were clean and stocked. The tenting spot was clean and had excellent coverage of trees to provide shade. The only negative thing I can say about the site is the highway, but there's nothing that can be done about that. Expect Highway noise on average anywhere from 4:30 in the morning till about 9:30 at night. I think the price was good, you are pretty close to Marquette. Would I stay again? Yes
Stayed here for the soft launch and had a spectacular time! The hosts are incredible, and the campsites are the most spacious I’ve ever stayed at other than dispersed/backcountry camping. No bugs, no noise, just forest all around and views that extend to the horizon. If you love camping, you’ll love Kona Hills Campground!
We had a beautiful time. Kids really enjoyed running around the rocky bluff. It kept them entertained so the adults got to play a few card games! win win! It was super cool to see some of the old rock graffiti, from 1909 and such. Wish I had brought crayons and paper to do rubbings. The reasons it wasn't quite 5 stars: It was opening weekend - so there were a lot of "looky-loos" just driving past, which got a little annoying. Signage is a little lacking, and we had a little difficulty finding our site. However - that is actively being worked, and I'd expect that to be in place by next weekend. I actually had a ridiculously peaceful time and I did not take any pictures. We saw a lot of neat plant-life: Jack-in-the-pulpits, Rock Harlequins and Striped Maples. Also saw deer, an eagle, and somebody saw a fox. So much bird song.
