Absolutely love this campground, and have been coming here for years. The campground host works so hard to keep the grounds clean and cleared, especially after the recent hurricane (Helene) that unfortunately knocked down multiple trees throughout the area. The shower house is great and the host keeps it so clean. Having trails connected to the campground is the best part! We were able to get in 12.5 miles, then walk back into camp and take a nice hot shower! We always look forward to staying here if we arent backpacking.
My husband and I stayed at campsite 4 for 3 nights recently. The sites are really nice and spaced out enough for privacy. The bathrooms were clean upon arrival but no one really kept up on them the entire time we were there. By the end if our trip, the showers were pretty rough and there was no toilet paper left in any of the stalls. Other than the bathrooms, it was a good experience.
This campground has a self pay system. You can reserve some sites online and others are first come first served. We arrived late on a Friday night and we got the last available campsite. I would highly recommend reserving ahead of time if possible to avoid missing out because the sites are already filled. The campsites have gravel pads for your tents, you are not allowed to put anything on the grass including tents. This does limit the amount of space that you have. There are some double sites with two gravel pads. Some sites have remote parking but most have the parking spot right next to the tent pad. There is a nice shower house and bath rooms. There are several water spigots spread around camp. There are also several vault or pit toilets spread around camp. There are a couple of trails that start or end in the camp ground. They are very nicely maintained and have great views of the cliffs and valleys and quiet nature all around. Please be careful when walking because there are some hills and cliffs around the area, take a buddy and use a flashlight at night. Like normal these days, you can't move firewood from other areas and you can't go into caves, invasive bugs and germs are destroying the local ecosystem.
Another of the Forest Services very best campgrounds. Really well kept sites. Wood and ice available on site. You can tell someone really cares for this place.
The campground was really well maintained. We watched the campsites be tended to after people left. They would be leaf blowing, raking the gravel lots, trimming back trees, etc. Although a majority of the bathrooms around the campground have pit toilets, the bath house has electricity and regular flush toilets. The bath house was very clean and they serviced it early in the morning. We stayed in campsite #8 and loved it. Trash and recycling were near the site and there was a water spigot within walking distance. There are several hiking trails off the campground. I was able to access the Cliff Trail from a short walk from our site and accessed the spur trail to the Silverarch Trail at the top campground loop. Other trails can be accessed down by the walk in campsites. You can hear a little road noise but it was nothing horrible. It didn’t disturb my sleep. Cash only but you can buy firewood for $7/bundle on site. Tunnel Ridge Rd isn’t far away and offers a lot more trails to hike. Sky Bridge Station is just down the road. It’s a great spot to eat dinner and grab a beer. I recommend the Daniel Boone Coffee Shop for breakfast.
