Customer Reviews
I was a little nervous coming to this property initially, after reading some of the online reviews. The HoJo Sacramento “Downtown” has taken a bit of a hit in the last month. I think what people need to have is a little perspective. If they want a five star hotel, that is what they should book. If you’re booking the Howard Johnson “downtown” Sacramento, you’re obviously looking for value and a deal. What I did notice was that the hotel itself is in very good condition and seems to be in the process of refreshing a lot of the rooms. My bathtub was a little sorry looking but everything else looked great. The free breakfast wasn’t spectacular, but it was acceptable. Again, if you’re paying around $100 a night, don’t expect a full hot meal. Reading the reviews online before I arrived, I was expecting the environment around the hotel to be a lot worse. Yes, there are homeless people in the area, but there are also homeless people downtown by the Hyatt Regency. It’s a problem that Sacramento is having right now, and I expect a lot of other travellers have similar problems in their own hometowns. The staff were generally pleasant and generally helpful. On the last day, I think I might have checked out with the hotel owner because he was extremely accommodating. In summary, if you are looking for a good deal and a decent place to stay in Sacramento, then this will do the trick.
I had an exceptional experience staying at this hotel. The staff were incredibly friendly and accommodating, always greeting me with a smile and offering help whenever needed. One of the staff I think his name was Sing was one of my favorite he was very welcoming. Overall, it was a fantastic stay, and I would highly recommend this hotel to anyone visiting the area!
No parking on Saturday night. Then they locked me out Sunday, when I payed through Monday. I had to limp all the way to the office, my cane & car keys locked in the room. Coffeemaker & mini fridge broken. The room was cold, with the heat on max. I won't be staying there again. I come to Sac once a month. It seemed like a good deal, but for 100 bucks a night for 3 nights, I'll find a place with working heat ,a cold fridge, and an in room coffeemaker I can use.
Rooms were good for the price, had free breakfast from 7-10am. Had multiple gas stations close by so that was good. I would say the the walls are thin and can hear people outside talking but overall it was okay
If you can avoid it, don't stay here. The employees were great. Very friendly. But the property itself is not ideal. To put it nicely there were ladies of the night that were hanging out on the balcony. It's awful looking. The rooms are supposed to be smoke free but ours reeked of smoke and the nearby occupants were smoking weed. If I were alone it's one thing but we had our young daughter with us. Again, staff was professional and so nice!
