La Quinta Inn & Suites by Wyndham Carlsbad - Legoland Area

This place was great. It was quiet despite being next to the freeway. The water from the sink and shower turns hot right away & water pressure is good. The hot breakfast was fantastic. I docked one star because we had small roaches in our room. We encountered at least nine during our two-night stay (killed all except one that got away). We were on the first floor. I will mention it to the receptionist &/or manager when we check out. I will also leave a note in our room for the housekeeper.

Mary Jane is an exceptional manager! The employees are all respectful, and kind. My rooms have always been clean and beautiful! The location is fantastic and just a few minute walk from the beach. I stay here every time I come to San Diego, which is pretty often! I look forward to staying here again soon!

This has been by far the nicest hotel we’ve ever stayed at in regards to the area, the comfort of the beds-especially for the price! Most beds tend to be incredibly stiff and I actually slept through each night here. Not to mention thin, the heaters in the room worked great. The room didn’t smell mildewy either which seems to happen a lot. We really appreciated the location as well, since we go between LA and San Diego a lot. Will definitely stay here again in the future.

Disappointing Stay Despite a Convenient Location and Friendly Staff We picked this hotel because it was affordable and close to Legoland, and the staff were incredibly friendly and welcoming. Unfortunately, our overall experience fell short. The room had an odd smell that lingered on the bed, pillows, and blankets, which made it hard to feel comfortable. On top of that, the shower only had cold water, and maintenance took too long to address the issue. The most concerning problem was the broken peephole on our door. It allowed anyone walking by to see directly into our room, which felt really unsafe. It’s a shame because the staff were so kind, but overall, I can’t recommend staying here.

I stayed at this La Quinta from 11/24 to 11/27 with my wife and 2 kids. On the morning of 11/27, my family was in the hotel lobby, eating breakfast . A homeless man carrying trash bags walked into the breakfast area and started walking up to the food counters, grabbing food. He then became verbally aggressive towards me and tried to chase me through the lobby. I walked outside to avoid him chasing me. I brought this to the attention of the employees behind the counter. A short time later, this homeless man got into a verbal altercation with another hotel guest in the breakfast area. The hotel guest went and complained to the employees at the front desk. When I later followed up with the front desk, the employees said they contacted the general manager. I asked to talk to the general manager, but I was told the general manager wasn't on site. I tried calling the front desk later in the day around at 12:30 pm and at 4:00 pm. Both times, I was told the general manager wasn't there. My family and I felt extremely unsafe and uncomfortable at breakfast from this aggressive individual. We were very disappointed that the hotel wasn't prepared to handle a situation like this. There were lots of hotel guests with small kids in the breakfast area when this incident occurred. It is sad they paid good money for the hotel and breakfast and had to experience this aggressive person. If the general manager does call me back at some time to address this concern, then I will be happy to update this review.
